During the working session, President Vo Van Thuong shared many important points about the role of social sciences and humanities. The President said: "In the current period, our country is striving to realize the aspiration for prosperity and happiness, striving to become a developed country with high income by 2045. That aspiration and vision can only be realized sustainably when there is a foundation of quality science and education . In which, social sciences and humanities play an important role. Because it is the science of human beings, researching issues related to humans, helping people become more excellent, making the best contribution to development, so that society becomes better and better."

The President emphasized: "Intellectuals and high-quality human resources are the core force, leading the process of industrialization and modernization of the country."

Talking about the mission of university education, the President said that "it is not only to impart knowledge and create new knowledge to serve the progress, prosperity and happiness of society; but also to prepare people - the human resources of society - with enough qualities and capacity to act, be creative and adapt in a constantly changing, complex and unpredictable world".

The President added: "Universities are places to discover abilities, nurture values, and create a foundation for individuals to develop comprehensively, to best promote their potential and creativity. From here, society is provided with responsible citizens who love their family, their country, their compatriots, live well and work effectively." Regarding experts, scientists, managers and leaders, the President believes that this is the force that brings knowledge, science and culture deeply into society, creating a foundation and driving force for development to effectively serve people and society.

In particular, the President emphasized: "In the context of rapid and unpredictable changes in the world, region and country, the technological revolution and globalization have strongly impacted the development of the economy, politics, society, culture, people, natural values and human values, giving rise to many new issues, posing new requirements requiring social sciences and humanities to keep up, respond well, have the ability to analyze, forecast, explain convincingly and participate in leading and orienting society."

From that important role, the President shared with the school some future orientations. First is the persistence in renewing thinking and action, constantly improving the quality of training and research, affirming the position of the school domestically, regionally and internationally.

"It also focuses on supporting and creating conditions for specific, important and necessary sectors, fields and subjects for the country's sustainable development. It contributes to solving a current challenge which is the shortage of elite intellectuals, experts, scientists and leading intellectuals, especially in some key areas of social sciences and humanities," the President added.

Special attention to character education

One of the contents that President Vo Van Thuong noted during the working session was to innovate school management and administration in the direction of autonomy, professionalism and modernity. Continue to focus on expanding international relations, attracting international students; achieve many results in training staff, lecturers, students as well as in training and scientific research linkages; expand research cooperation with important academic partners, receive, dialogue, contribute and apply new theoretical frameworks, new methods, new approaches in social sciences and humanities research in Vietnam.

Regarding learners, the President said that it is necessary to meet the requirements of educational innovation by comprehensively developing learners' capacity and qualities, building a cultural and academic environment so that students are confident, independent, creative, and passionate about research, study, and serving society. Pay special attention to character education, developing necessary capacities for students to increase their ability to adapt to society and integrate internationally, have skills and thinking for lifelong learning; arouse the aspirations and will, and determination of each individual to contribute to the rise of the whole nation.

In his speech, the President paid special attention to the team of managers and teachers. According to the President, this is the force that determines the quality of training and research of the school. Therefore, it is necessary to have appropriate remuneration and policies for highly qualified staff; create conditions and environments for teachers to self-study, research, cultivate, develop knowledge, professional skills, and promote pedagogical capacity. Focus on training, fostering, and attracting a team of good, highly qualified lecturers with creative capacity in teaching and scientific research.

"There needs to be a mechanism to attract talented cadres and scientists from within the country and abroad to work at the school. Encourage and motivate cadres to cultivate and improve their qualities and ethics, work responsibly, complete their work well, and maintain integrity in science," President Vo Van Thuong added.
