Wuzhishan Scenic Area is hiring people to impersonate Sun Wukong for a salary of nearly $850 a month just to stand still and let tourists feed them.

Wuzhishan Scenic Area, Hebei Province, has attracted international tourists by recruiting staff to impersonate Sun Wukong and eat bananas fed by visitors.

Journey to the West is a famous Chinese work about the journey of five monks and disciples of Tang Monk to the West to obtain Buddhist scriptures. Sun Wukong, Tang Monk's great disciple, was previously imprisoned by Buddha at the foot of the Five Elements Mountain for his mistakes.

The Hebei scenic area has relied on this classic plot to attract tourists. The staff's job is to wear Sun Wukong's mask and costume every day and hide in a cave at the foot of the mountain, sticking their faces out. The young visitors will buy bananas, candy, and fruit and feed the fake Wukong. The staff are not required to eat all the food the visitors bring, they often take the fruit back to share with their colleagues. The company also installed an electric heater inside the cave in case of cold weather.

The salary is more than $840 a month. The job does not require a degree or experience, just "a passion for the character of Sun Wukong and a talent for acting, and a willingness to interact well with visitors." Two staff members take turns playing Sun Wukong, and the scenic area is recruiting a third.

One of the two employees working said "I really enjoyed playing the role of Sun Wukong when I was a child". He hopes that this act can bring joy to tourists.

"A great job", "Just eat and still get paid. It's truly the legendary easy job with high salary" are the comments people left on Douyin, the Chinese version of Tiktok.
