With the transfer of technology to produce heat-resistant, fire-resistant fabrics from Coats Group (UK), Vinatex is the first Vietnamese enterprise to export this product, with a long-term goal of achieving revenue of 100 million USD/year.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), Mr. Le Tien Truong and representatives of functional departments in the Group have just inspected the preparation work for the official production system assessment within the framework of the fire-resistant fabric project in cooperation between Vinatex and Coats Group (UK).

Regarding the production preparation, Mr. Pham Xuan Trinh, Director of the Fireproof Fabric Production Project Management Board, said: “Currently, the preparation for the system assessment has basically been completed. The test assessment results on July 16 showed that the project achieved 121 out of 134 criteria required by the partner, Coats Group (equivalent to 92%)”.

From the results of the trial assessment, the Project Management Board and Nam Dinh Textile and Garment Corporation ( Natexco ) continued to supplement, complete and overcome 13 unmet criteria according to the consultant's instructions.

On August 4, 2024, Coats Group experts will come to Vietnam to work with the Project Management Board, providing technical guidance for production from the fiber - weaving - dyeing stages to prepare for orders in the last 5 months of the year.

It is expected that this week (August 6) will be ready for the official assessment. To prepare for this assessment, Vinatex leaders requested the Fireproof Fabric Project Management Board to complete the production of the order in the last months of 2024 as committed to the partner.

At the same time, review the needs for human resources, investment in machinery and equipment for production as well as other problems to proactively report to the group for consideration and support.

Thus, within more than 4 months since Vinatex officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Coats Group, a large amount of work has been completed, preparing for the production of the first export order.

In March 2024, Vinatex and Coats Group signed a memorandum of understanding on the production of flame retardant clothing with exclusive technology from Coats Group. The goal in the first year is to bring to market flame retardant fabric products with a value of 5 million USD.

Vinatex will manufacture and sell flame-retardant fabrics and clothing under exclusive orders for Coats and its subsidiaries globally.

In return, Coats Group is responsible for technology copyright, product technical standard certification, product design & development, technology transfer, sales, promotion, marketing, distribution and supply of flame retardant (FR) fabrics and FR clothing samples.

In addition, Coats is committed to continuously developing FR fabrics, ensuring products are competitive and meet market needs.

According to Vinatex leaders, in phase 1, the group will focus on production according to technology transferred by partners, with orders already having destinations.

The production of fire-resistant fabrics is one of the steps to find a way out of the conventional textile production sector, which is now too fiercely competitive in terms of price. The product will enter the niche market, not fashion but technical goods,

Vinatex expects that the cooperation between Vinatex and Coats will be a breakthrough and an experimental step to attack the market based on the copyrighted invention of fire-resistant fabric of Coats Group transferred and produced in Vietnam.
