Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu shared that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - just a few steps away from Ba Dinh Square, where President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam exactly 80 years ago. That historic moment echoes the aspirations for sovereignty and self-determination that ASEAN is pursuing today.

Today's ceremony has a special meaning - commemorating the 58th anniversary of ASEAN's founding, marking the 10th anniversary of the ASEAN Community and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam joining the ASEAN family.

The Deputy Minister said that this milestone has special significance as Vietnam is moving towards two goals: the 100th anniversary of the founding of the country and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party. These historical milestones promote Vietnam's commitment to becoming a strong and prosperous nation, not only for itself but also to make meaningful contributions to the ASEAN house and the common prosperity of the region.

The ASEAN flag has four colors: blue, red, white and yellow, with the symbol of a bundle of 10 rice stalks in the middle to represent friendship, solidarity and unity among member countries and the aspiration for peace , stability and prosperous development of the whole bloc.

The Deputy Minister mentioned the challenges that ASEAN is facing such as strategic competition, non-traditional security threats, unpredictable fluctuations in the global economy , erosion of strategic trust, and weakening of multilateral cooperation.

According to the Deputy Minister, ASEAN’s central role is the answer to these challenges. That is, maintaining its position as the center of regional dialogue and cooperation, and maintaining its role as a driving force for peace, stability and development in Southeast Asia.

"These challenges demand the best of us. Unity binds us. Cooperation strengthens us. Creativity propels us forward. Courage defines the true spirit of ASEAN. We must uphold these values ​​to protect ASEAN centrality...", the Deputy Minister expressed.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu cited the proverb: "One tree cannot make a forest, but three trees together can make a high mountain." This proverb perfectly describes the nature of ASEAN.

In the article "30-year journey from common aspiration to trusted and responsible member", Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son stated that three decades ago, on July 28, 1995, Vietnam's accession to ASEAN was a strategic decision of historic significance, opening a new chapter in the integration process and starting the country's strong journey of growth.

The past 30 years are a vivid testament to the vision and political mettle of the Party and State in building and consolidating a peaceful and cooperative environment for development.

Vietnam has come to ASEAN with a spirit of friendship and joined ASEAN with a sense of responsibility. And today, in a world that is changing rapidly, Vietnam, with a new mindset and a new attitude, will continue to work with other countries to write ASEAN success stories in a new era of development.
