This is an important technical milestone, deciding the grid connection and operation of the unit in the last months of the year.

The installation of the rotor of Unit 2 is taking place in the “sprint” phase, preparing for the full operation of the project on December 19. LILAMA 10 has organized three continuous shifts, increased machinery and supporting equipment to ensure there is no overlap or interruption during the construction process.
The rotor of unit 2 has a mass equivalent to about 585 tons (same mass as the rotor of unit 1). Before installation, the rotor is carefully checked in every detail, cleaned, aligned, pressure tested, and sample measured to ensure deviation within design limits.
According to Mr. Bui Binh Nhuong - Commander of LILAMA 10 at the project, up to this point, the construction and installation volume of Unit 2 has reached more than 80%. Installing the rotor for Unit 2 is one of the most decisive stages of the project.

Once the rotor is installed and successfully combined with the stator and other auxiliary systems, Unit 2 will continue to be tested, calibrated, and run without load, then enter the loaded running phase and connect to the grid, ensuring commercial power generation by the end of December 2025.
Previously, on August 19, Unit 1 successfully connected to the national grid.
The Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project has two units, each with a capacity of 240 MW, and will start construction in 2021 with a total investment of about VND9,220 billion. When fully operational, the project will provide about 488 - 490 million kWh of electricity per year, contributing to increasing the peak capacity of the national power system, stabilizing the frequency and reducing the load on the units of the existing Hoa Binh Hydropower System.
