60th Anniversary of Van Tuong Victory Day

Attending the ceremony were Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem - former member of the Party Central Committee, former Deputy Minister of National Defense ; Lieutenant General Nguyen Trung Thu - former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Hero of the People's Armed Forces; Major General Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Commander of Military Region 5; Comrade Dang Ngoc Huy - Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation Affairs Committee; comrades representing the leaders of Departments, Offices, Institutes of Central Committees, Ministries and branches; representatives of the leaders of Division 320, Corps 3, Division 2, Division 307, 315 of Military Region 5.

On the side of the provincial leaders, there were alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of U Huan province; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Duc Tuy; Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Y Ngoc, along with comrades in the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee; former leaders of the province through the periods; leaders of departments, branches, Van Tuong commune, together with cadres and soldiers who participated in leading and fighting to create the Van Tuong Victory.

At the ceremony, the alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of U Huan province reviewed the heroic events of the Van Tuong battle on August 18, 1965, affirming that this was a victory of great historical significance, opening the way for the failure of the US's "Local War" strategy in the South. The Van Tuong victory is a powerful testament to the indomitable will, bravery, intelligence and creativity of the army and people of Quang Ngai, and at the same time affirming the unique military art of the Vietnamese people: "using the small to defeat the big, using the few to fight the many".

The victory of Van Tuong left a deep impression, arousing strong belief in the final victory of the resistance war against the US to save the country. It is not only the pride of the people of Quang Ngai but also a brilliant golden page in the history of the nation.

Right on the land that was once a fierce battlefield, today Dung Quat Economic Zone has been formed - the industrial, service and urban center in the East of the province, where many national-scale projects converge. People's lives are increasingly improved, the appearance of the homeland is constantly changing.

On behalf of the Party Committee, government and people of the province, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee U Huan called on the entire Party, army and people of Quang Ngai to continue to promote the spirit of Van Tuong Victory, unite, strive to compete, take advantage of all potentials and advantages, promote industrialization and modernization, build Quang Ngai to be increasingly rich and civilized, contributing with the whole country to successfully achieve the goal of "rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization".

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Commander of Military Region 5 emphasized that the Van Tuong Victory was the opening battle of historical significance, defeating the first major "search and destroy" operation of the US Marines. That victory affirmed the indomitable will, creative intelligence of our army and people, bankrupted the enemy's plot to "flood the territory" and became a great encouragement for the revolutionary struggle movement throughout the South. The Van Tuong tradition is a shining symbol of the spirit of "Loyalty - Resilience, Unity - Determination to Win", which continues to be inherited and promoted by generations of officers and soldiers of Military Region 5 today in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

At the ceremony, representative of Veterans of Regiment 1 Trinh Phu Thien, on behalf of the officers and soldiers who directly participated in the historic Van Tuong Victory, expressed his emotion and pride in contributing to the Van Tuong Victory in 1965. He recalled the heroic memories of the battle, when our army and people were resilient and resourceful, defeating the first large-scale operation of the US expeditionary force on the southern battlefield.

Comrade Trinh Phu Thien also sent his feelings and responsibilities to today's young generation, hoping that Quang Ngai youth will always be proud of the heroic tradition of their homeland, follow in the footsteps of their fathers and brothers, strive to study, practice, promote creativity, and aspire to contribute to build Quang Ngai to become more and more developed.

Speaking on behalf of the young generation of Quang Ngai province, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Van Tuong commune, Vo Thanh Dat, expressed his honor and pride in being born and raised in a homeland rich in revolutionary tradition. He affirmed that today's young generation always remembers the great contributions of previous generations, vows to follow the heroic tradition, strives to study, practice, innovate, start a business, master science and technology, contributing to building the homeland of Quang Ngai to be more and more prosperous and civilized.
