This morning (May 25), at the National Funeral House, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, the memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong was solemnly held.

Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh - Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister - Head of the Funeral Organizing Committee of former President Tran Duc Luong - invited family representatives, leaders, former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front and comrades to walk around the coffin, bid farewell to comrade Tran Duc Luong to his final resting place.

Mr. Tran Tuan Anh expressed: “In infinite emotion and endless pain, on behalf of my mother, sisters, my wife and all the children and grandchildren in the family, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who attended the memorial service and saw off my father - comrade Tran Duc Luong - in the last minutes of his life.”

Mr. Tran Tuan Anh expressed his gratitude to the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for solemnly organizing the State Funeral to commemorate and pay tribute to the great contributions of former President Tran Duc Luong to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. Mr. Tran Tuan Anh also expressed his deep gratitude to the leaders and former leaders of the Party, the State, the central and local departments, ministries, branches, organizations, diplomatic agencies, domestic and international organizations for sending wreaths, condolences, and coming directly to the funeral and farewell ceremony for former President Tran Duc Luong.

“Comrade's passing is a great loss to the Party, the State, the people and his family. Today, in deep sorrow, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, together with compatriots and soldiers nationwide, our compatriots abroad, international friends and family solemnly organize the funeral and farewell ceremony for comrade Tran Duc Luong - a highly prestigious leader, a shining example of studying and following the example, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh, a loyal communist party member to his final resting place" - The eulogy of former President Tran Duc Luong read by President Luong Cuong stated.

President Luong Cuong stated that, in his practical work, former President Tran Duc Luong was a leader with strong political will, extensive experience, always steadfast in the goal of national independence and socialism, creatively applying Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, loyal to the Party's platform and guidelines and national interests, with a far-sighted vision, decisiveness, composure, caution, enthusiasm and intelligence. He always struggled to come up with leadership solutions and directions to successfully implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies, and paid attention to improving the material and spiritual lives of the people.

7:00 a.m.: Memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong

Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh - Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister - Head of the Funeral Organizing Committee of former President Tran Duc Luong - presided over the memorial service program.

“In infinite sorrow, we gather here to send comrade Tran Duc Luong - former President - to his final resting place” - said the Head of the Funeral Organizing Committee.

At the same time, at Thong Nhat Hall (HCMC), the memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong took place.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said that during the funeral in Ho Chi Minh City, more than 2,600 people from 428 delegations representing agencies, organizations, units, localities and people came to pay their respects to former President Tran Duc Luong.

According to statistics, as of yesterday (May 24), there were 655 delegations of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, a large number of cadres, party members, people from all walks of life, diplomatic delegations with nearly 9,500 people coming to pay their respects to former President Tran Duc Luong, expressing gratitude, respect, and condolences to the leader who made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the entire nation.

6:50: Preparations for the funeral inside the National Funeral Home

The coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong lies at the National Funeral House, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.

Lying in the most solemn position, in the middle of the altar, the coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong was covered with a bright red national flag.

In front of the coffin of comrade Tran Duc Luong, above the podium is the national flag with a black ribbon, prominently displaying the words "Deeply mourning comrade Tran Duc Luong, former member of the Politburo, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" and his portrait.

Preparations for the memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong were carefully carried out from early morning at the National Funeral House.

6:40: According to Lao Dong reporters, this morning (May 25), the weather in Hanoi is cool and the temperature is low. At 6:40, the recorded temperature was 23 degrees Celsius.

According to the forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on May 25, cold air will intensify, spread deeper and continue to affect the Northern region. In the capital Hanoi, the weather will be cool with the lowest temperature commonly ranging from 21-23 degrees.

The memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong was solemnly held at 7:00 a.m. on May 25, 2025.

At the same time, at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City and at Hall T50, Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command, No. 142 Le Trung Dinh, Quang Ngai City, the memorial service for comrade Tran Duc Luong also took place.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. the same day at the hometown cemetery, Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province.

During the two days of the State Funeral for former Politburo member and former President Tran Duc Luong (May 24 and 25, 2025), agencies, offices, and public places will fly flags at half-mast and no entertainment activities will be organized.

According to the Special Announcement, Comrade Tran Duc Luong - former Politburo member, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, former Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, was born on May 5, 1937; hometown: Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho district (now Duc Pho town), Quang Ngai province; permanent residence at No. 298, Van Phuc street, Lieu Giai ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi.

He joined the revolution in February 1955; joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on December 19, 1959; member of the Party Central Committee of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th terms; member of the Politburo of the 8th and 9th terms; member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the 8th term; Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers from February 1987 to August 1992; Deputy Prime Minister from September 1992 to August 1997; from September 1997 to June 2006, he was President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council of the 10th and 11th terms; National Assembly delegate of the 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th terms.

After a period of serious illness, despite the Party, State, professors, doctors and nurses' devoted treatment and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and serious illness, he passed away at 22:51, May 20, 2025 (April 23, At Ty year), at his home, at the age of 88.

During more than 50 years of revolutionary activities, he made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the Gold Star Order, 65-year Party membership badge and many other noble medals, awards and titles by the Party and the State.

Comrade's passing is a great loss to our Party, State, People and Comrade's family. To express condolences and commemorate Comrade Tran Duc Luong, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold a State funeral for Comrade.
