Waiting for good news on the opening day of U.17 Vietnam

Vietnam U17 will start their journey in Group I of the 2025 AFC U17 Championship qualifiers with a match against Kyrgyzstan U17. The match will take place at 7 p.m. today (October 23) at Phu Tho Stadium (Phu Tho province) and will be broadcast live onFPT Play.

Vietnam U17 team has been preparing carefully for the Asian qualifiers, with two training trips to China and Japan. In China, coach Cristiano Roland's team caused a shock when they defeated Uzbekistan U17 (3-0) and Japan U17 (1-0) to win the 2024 Peace Cup runner-up position.

U.17 Vietnam training in Phu Tho

Disciplined and tight playing style is the new point of the U.17 team under the guidance of Mr. Roland. At the age of strength and full of ambition, U.17 Vietnam is maturing every day with the new training method of the Hanoi youth team coach. During the training trip in Japan, Mr. Roland once again screened and rehearsed the team, before finalizing the force for the Asian qualifiers.

"We have prepared with two training sessions in China and Japan, giving us the best opportunity to prepare for this tournament. This is not an easy group, the challenges are very difficult, but U.17 Vietnam will compete with all their might," Coach Roland shared before the qualifying round.

The opening match opponent of U.17 Vietnam is U.17 Kyrgyzstan. The Central Asian team has faced Vietnam many times at various levels in recent years. For example, the Kyrgyzstan team beat Vietnam 2-1 in a friendly match before the 2023 Asian Cup. Before that, U.23 Kyrgyzstan drew 0-0 with U.23 Vietnam at the Doha Cup (March 2023).

Or at the U.17 level, the U.17 Vietnam team won 3-1 against U.17 Kyrgyzstan in the group stage of the 2016 U.17 Asia, creating the premise to win a ticket to the quarterfinals.

Group I schedule of the U.17 Asian qualifiers

However, at the youth level, past confrontation results are only for reference. Coach Igor Nikitin of U.17 Kyrgyzstan emphasized: "U.17 Vietnam has a big advantage not only in terms of field conditions and spectators. However, the results of the U.17 youth team are difficult to predict, there are many influencing factors such as psychology and external conditions, so we will try our best in the tournament."

The opponents are well prepared.

U.17 Kyrgyzstan has been in Vietnam since October 12 to best adapt to the weather and field conditions. The Central Asian representative is a "mysterious" opponent for U.17 Vietnam. At the same time, the opening match is always very difficult when the opponent's strength is not yet known. Therefore, the challenge for Mr. Roland and his team is not small.

In the early match taking place at 4pm, U.17 Myanmar will face U.17 Yemen. The West Asian representative has been training for a long time in Jordan and Oman to hone their squad, while U.17 Myanmar also had a draw against U.17 Qatar in the preparation for the tournament.

In this group, U.17 Vietnam is rated the highest, but Mr. Roland's team is not superior to the opponent. Therefore, the whole team needs to play carefully, cherish every point if they want to be present in the final round.
