Liverpool were playing at Anfield in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals but still suffered a 0-3 defeat to Atalanta. Former West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca scored a brace for the visitors, with goals in the 38th and 60th minutes of the match. In the 83rd minute, Mario Pasalic sealed a 3-0 win for the Italians.
Speaking after the match, Klopp could not contain his anger. He said: "Honestly, there is nothing good to say about this performance. Losing is losing, I am not saying the changes made us lose. But if we want to play well regularly during the season, we have to make changes to give the players a rest.
We started well but then we couldn't do anything. Even before they scored I saw we were starting to falter. The team was stretched, the midfielders were running around aimlessly, I couldn't see anything anymore. The players seemed to have lost their minds for a while."
Liverpool are facing a tight schedule, with an average of a game every three days. Next Sunday, they will face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
