Jellyfish lantern
Originating from hobbyists who love making handmade items, jellyfish lanterns quickly became a "hot trend" during the Mid-Autumn Festival thanks to their funny appearance and affordable price.
Do Ngoc Huynh Nhu (25 years old), living on Bau Cat Street, Bay Hien Ward (formerly Ward 12, Tan Binh District), Ho Chi Minh City, quickly caught the trend and started a business selling this type of lantern.
"To complete a zinc-anchor Mid-Autumn Festival lantern requires at least 5 steps, taking about 20 to 30 minutes if you are familiar with it. At first, I found it difficult, but after just a few first products, it took about 15 minutes to create a complete lantern," Nhu shared.

According to Huynh Nhu, the price of jellyfish lanterns ranges from 30,000 - 50,000 VND/piece depending on the type. In addition, Nhu said that you can buy zinc wire yourself to make the lantern yourself, which will add more meaning.
Bui Trach Nhan, a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City, was very excited when he first learned about this lantern model. "The jellyfish lantern is very unique, and I can also buy zinc to make it at home. I made a pink lantern for my sister to play during the Mid-Autumn Festival, and buying zinc only costs about 15,000 VND," Nhan said.
Catch the patriotic trend with red flag lanterns with yellow stars
In addition to jellyfish lanterns, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival also saw a surge in lantern designs celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2. Lantern designs with the red flag and yellow star printed on them are also a popular choice among young people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue (42 years old), working at a lantern shop on Luong Nhu Hoc Street, Cho Lon Ward (formerly Ward 11, District 5), Ho Chi Minh City, said that this year the theme of "patriotism" is of interest to many people, so red flag and yellow star lanterns are prioritized for sale, from paper to colored cellophane.
“These lantern models range from 40,000 - 50,000 VND/piece, while paper lanterns are cheaper at about 30,000 VND/piece,” said Ms. Hue.

Nguyen Quoc Huy, a student at Ho Chi Minh City International University, said: “Looking at the traditional and pretty lanterns, I feel very special. This year is also a year of many important events for the country, so seeing that image on the street makes my heart flutter even more. After the solemn parade of the soldiers, seeing the bright red lanterns makes me feel even more proud and warm.”
Labubu and babythree lanterns are still trending
Popular since 2024, but by 2025, the labubu and babythree lantern models have not shown any signs of cooling down, and are being chosen by young people with interest. Walking around Luong Nhu Hoc lantern street, the number of these lanterns also accounts for the majority. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, although it is an old model, this lantern model is still chosen by many young people because of its compactness and cuteness.

Nguyen Thi Truc Thao, a student at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City, chose to buy a labubu lantern. “Although it is not as popular as last year, I still find labubu very cute. This year, mini lanterns are popular, and the labubu attached to a bamboo basket makes me even more excited,” Thao shared.
Rabbit lantern models are also sold by many vendors.
