On the afternoon of January 8, the Southwest qualifying round of the 3rd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup (TNSV THACO Cup 2025) officially kicked off at Can Tho Stadium. The opening match of the qualifying round took place at 1:30 p.m., between Cuu Long University and Dong Thap University.

Cuu Long University and Dong Thap University are both "away teams". Another similarity is that both schools pay great attention to each other and are determined to win this year's tournament. The match between Dong Thap University (blue shirt) and Cuu Long University (yellow shirt) ended in a 0-0 draw.

Dong Thap University fans have shown that the distance of hundreds of kilometers is not a problem when you are determined to cheer for your "favorite team". The students from the land of pink lotus made a big impression when they brought drums, trumpets, banners, and slogans to stir up the atmosphere. The fans clearly showed their enthusiasm and were always full of energy. Every attack of the home team received applause and cheers to boost the players' spirit.

Dong Thap University fans bring many "accessories" to support their team's spirit.

Luong Phu Quy (19 years old), a fan of Dong Thap University, said that this was the first time Dong Thap University participated in the Youth Student Football Tournament, so it received a lot of attention from fans. Therefore, when the school shared the information, the number of people registered to cheer was very large. However, due to limited means of transport, the school only organized 4 buses to carry about 150 students to cheer for this match.

Quy is a loyal fan of Dong Thap University team. He has watched the team participate in many tournaments and experienced many different atmospheres. However, the Youth Student Football Tournament gives him a very special feeling. Before setting foot in Can Tho Stadium, Quy did not think that a student tournament would be organized so professionally and grandly, receiving so much attention from fans.

Fans traveled hundreds of kilometers to Can Tho Stadium

It is worth mentioning that in terms of expertise, the teams are quite equal in level, so the cheering atmosphere is not one-sided, but the emotions keep going up and down, very exciting. "To meet your needs, the cheering team will give priority to those who have not had the chance to go to the next match. It is true that traveling far is tiring, but what you experience at Can Tho Stadium is truly worth it. Hopefully, the Dong Thap University team will go far in this year's tournament so that everyone will have the opportunity to cheer more," Quy shared.

On the other side of the stands, Cuu Long University was not at all outdone by the opposing team's fans. They did not have as many "supporting accessories" as Dong Thap University, so they took advantage of the applause and cheers to "fight" with the opposing team. Mr. Bui Le Hung, Coach of Cuu Long University, said that the school had arranged 2 cars to transport more than 100 fans to Can Tho Stadium, many of whom were Lao and Cambodian students. Many of them went to cheer last year and registered to go again this year because they were very impressed with the tournament.

Cuu Long University was not outdone when it hired two cars to carry more than 100 fans to cheer on the players.

According to Mr. Hung, the school not only facilitates transportation for fans to watch the match but also supports each student with 50,000 VND. The main purpose of this money is to support drinking water, helping students recharge their energy to cheer more enthusiastically. "This year, Cuu Long University is in a difficult group, so students really want to accompany the players. Although when traveling to school, in the evening many students still study IT and English. However, whoever participates cheers as enthusiastically as possible so that the players do not feel mentally disadvantaged," Mr. Hung shared.

Southwestern region qualifying round schedule

The qualifying round of the 3rd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup has 66 teams divided into 6 groups to compete according to geographical areas from December 28, 2024 to January 18, 2025. Specifically, including the northern region (from December 30, 2024 - January 10, 2025 at Thuy Loi University Stadium); the Central Coast region (from January 6 - January 12, 2025 at Military Zone 5 Stadium - Da Nang); the South Central and Central Highlands regions (January 10 - January 18, 2025 at Nha Trang University Stadium); the Southeast region (January 4 - January 12, 2025 at Bau Thanh Stadium, Ba Ria - Vung Tau); Southwestern region (January 8 - January 17, 2025 at Can Tho Stadium) and Ho Chi Minh City region (December 28, 2024 - January 15, 2025 at Ton Duc Thang University Stadium) to select 11 teams along with the host team Ton Duc Thang University to compete in the final round of the tournament from March 1 - March 16, 2025.
