The US Open 2025 women's singles quarterfinal clash between Anisimova and Swiatek attracted special attention from tennis fans.
The reason is that at the previous Wimbledon final, Swiatek made history by becoming the first player in the Open era to win a "double bagel" with a score of 6-0, 6-0 in a women's singles final. Previously, only Steffi Graf did this at Roland Garros in 1988.
This time, Anisimova entered the match with a more relaxed mentality, without the burden of a first Grand Slam final. In addition, both the neutral audience and the fans at home were on the American's side, hoping to see a "revenge" after the shock at Wimbledon, and Anisimova did not disappoint.
The match was tense, especially in the second set after the home player won the first set 6-3. When Anisimova led 5-3 and served to end the match, she led 40-0. However, the psychological pressure caused her to make two consecutive double faults, allowing Swiatek to reduce the score to 40-30.
Luck smiled on the eighth seed when on the deciding point, a shot that hit the net bounced into Swiatek’s court, giving her the win. If the score had been tied at 40-40, the world number two would have likely broken the game, as Anisimova was under a lot of psychological pressure.

This is Anisimova's second win in 2025 against a top-2 WTA player, the first being against Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon.
