Nhon metro tunnel boring machine

The tunnel boring machine (TBM) named Than Toc has arrived at S10 - Cat Linh station, marking an important milestone of the Hanoi urban railway pilot project, Nhon - Hanoi station section.

According to the Urban Railway Management Board, today (March 7), the first tunnel boring machine (TBM) named Than Toc has officially arrived at the S10 - Cat Linh station, marking an important milestone in the construction process of the Nhon - Hanoi station urban railway line.

Contractors are excited because the tunnel boring machine has reached Cat Linh station.

The Speed ​​TBM is the first tunnel boring machine to be started in the CP03 package - Tunnels and underground stations of the project. Starting from station S9 - Kim Ma on July 30, 2024, after many months of safe operation, the machine has completed drilling and installing the tunnel lining with a length of more than 1,338m to station S10 - Cat Linh, strictly complying with technical and environmental standards.

TBM No. 2 started working from Station S9 (Kim Ma Station) on February 3. Both TBMs are expected to complete the entire tunnel boring work by the end of 2025.

After finishing drilling at station S12 - Hanoi station, the drilling head of the TBMs will be dismantled at this station, the auxiliary equipment system will be pulled back and dismantled at station S9 - Kim Ma.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Son - Deputy Head of Hanoi Railway Management Board said: "The official arrival of TBM Than Toc at S10 - Cat Linh station is an important step forward for the project. This is the result of continuous efforts to overcome difficulties, as well as close coordination between Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board, Consultants, contractors and relevant parties in ensuring the progress, quality and safety of the project".

As of March 2, the overall construction progress of the CP03 package - Tunnel and underground stations reached 55.38%. The underground ramp was 76.63% completed, station S9 was 50.50% completed, the vertical shaft was 24.51% completed, the tunnel line was 51.48% completed, stations S10, S11, S12 (including lane change and garage) were 64.64%, 58.1%, 59.74% completed, respectively.

Construction activities are taking place at all construction sites. Specifically, station S10 - Cat Linh is deploying the southern auxiliary structure, mobilizing and installing the push frame system to receive the TBM; station S11 - Van Mieu Station has completed pouring concrete for the bottom slab; station 12 - Hanoi Station is constructing the transfer slab and excavating the ground for the mezzanine slab in parallel.

The Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board pledges to continue to closely coordinate with relevant parties to complete the next items, aiming to put the entire project into operation as soon as possible.

During the construction process, the Project will use a geotechnical monitoring system to ensure the monitoring and tracking of ground movement and subsidence. The tunnel boring will be carried out with caution and strict supervision to ensure the safety of existing structures as well as the quality of the works under construction.

It is expected that the underground section will be completed in 2027, after which the entire urban railway line No. 3, Nhon - Hanoi station section, will be put into operation, contributing to changing the face of the capital, conveniently connecting areas and promoting sustainable development and greening urban transport.

The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station urban railway project is one of the city's key transport projects, contributing to reducing traffic congestion, improving the public transport system and enhancing the quality of the urban environment.
