* After a market sell-off due to the impact of African swine fever, prices have started to rise since mid-March as concerns about oversupply eased.

After two years of heavy losses, many farmers have given up on herd restoration while livestock enterprises have no plans to expand their herds. This has resulted in the market supply not being as abundant as it was at the beginning of this year.

According to data from the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Planning and Investment), the total number of pigs in our country as of the end of May increased by about 2.6% compared to the same period last year. However, many large enterprises said that the actual estimated number was much lower due to disease and low prices, forcing many farmers to "hang up their pigsty".

“Compared to livestock enterprises, small-scale farmers will have more difficulty in restocking due to limited capital. Although pig prices have improved in the second quarter, the demand for livestock will take a long time to recover,” said Pham Quang Anh, Director of the Vietnam Commodity Information Center.

Besides the supply shortage, expectations of improved meat prices in the world market also support our country's live pig prices.
