Le Viet Anh, owner of a full scholarship from the National University of Singapore
The belief that "what goes around comes around"
Le Viet Anh, a former student of the English class at Hanoi National University of Education High School, has continuously received invitations to study from many of the world's leading universities in recent months, such as the University of Sydney, Monash, Queensland, Adelaide (Australia), Aalto (Finland, with 100% tuition scholarships)... Among them, he was awarded a full scholarship from NUS College (the school's honors program) to study business analysis at the NUS School of Computing.
According to the QS World University Rankings 2025, NUS is ranked No. 1 in Asia and No. 8 globally. The scholarship Viet Anh received includes full tuition (about SGD 39,000/year), living allowance (SGD 8,800/year) and computer allowance (SGD 1,750). In addition, he was also admitted to Hanoi University of Science and Technology and other universities: Foreign Trade, National Economics , VinUni (100% scholarship worth VND 3.2 billion)...
"Before entering grade 10, I made a list of things to do in the next 3 years of study, including the dream of being admitted to top universities in Vietnam and the world like NUS. At the beginning of grade 12, the NUS admissions committee organized a consultation workshop at my school, and from there I started preparing my application. When I encountered difficulties, I was lucky to receive enthusiastic help from my parents, teachers, seniors and friends. Finally, my dream of going to NUS came true," Viet Anh confided.
Regarding the application, Viet Anh said that in addition to the requirements for GPA, English certificate... he had to write an essay if he wanted to enroll in NUS College. The school required him to choose one of two topics, the first was to define the concept of "intelligence", from which he would state what area he was intelligent in; the second was to comment on how life is always ambiguous and what he would do if those ambiguities were removed.
"I chose the topic 'intelligence' because I could write from my own personal experience. Because in 3 years of studying, I met many talented and dynamic friends in many different fields and I was worried that I would be 'out of place'. But then I realized that each friend has their own development journey. Each friend's progress and goals are different, so we need to try our best instead of putting pressure on ourselves," Viet Anh said.
"Therefore, in the essay, I analyzed that being smart is understanding yourself 'just keep going and you will get there', instead of constantly comparing your abilities with others even though each person has different circumstances. Being smart is not just about being able to answer a difficult question, but also about always finding ways to solve problems that have no answers yet," the male student added.
Viet Anh has just finished his first week of school at the National University of Singapore.
This belief is also the driving force that motivates Viet Anh to challenge many fields and make every effort for it. For example, when teaching English to students preparing for IELTS, Viet Anh did not do it with the mindset of "standing in class for fun" but decided to study for an IELTS speaking and writing teaching certificate from IDP to improve his teaching ability. He also created a TikTok channel to share ways to learn English and manages content and design at a number of student educational institutions.
After passing the application round, Viet Anh continued to participate in the interview round with lecturers at NUS. "The secret to conquering this round is to learn carefully about the school to discover what makes you suitable for the school and what you can contribute to the school. From there, the answer will be more specific and convincing, instead of just general without any personal mark," the male student said.
8.0 IELTS, 1.540 SAT
To conquer top universities, in addition to essays and extracurricular activities, Viet Anh also possesses an impressive academic record with 8.0 IELTS (writing skills score 8.0 and listening and reading score perfect), 1.540 SAT (math score perfect). The male student also maintained a GPA of 9.7 - 9.9 for 3 years of high school, achieving the highest GPA for the entire year in 4 years of middle school with 7 scholarships from Ngo Si Lien Middle School (Hanoi).
In addition to his strength in English, Viet Anh also has a special love for literature. In grade 9, in addition to taking extra English classes, he also collected documents to self-study literature. This helped him get into 4 specialized schools in Hanoi, both English and literature. After that, even though he studied in an English class, his love for literature did not stop, helping him win a consolation prize in the literature competition in grade 11, and a third prize in the English competition in grade 12, all at the University of Education level (equivalent to the city level).
Sharing more about his learning method, the Hanoi male student said that he always approaches lessons with a relaxed and happy mindset and does not "limit" knowledge to classroom lectures but actively seeks out many other sources online, as well as from experts. At the same time, to achieve the highest results in international exams such as IELTS and SAT, students should focus on studying, temporarily putting aside extracurricular activities and entertainment, Viet Anh advised.

Ms. Phan Phuong Thao, homeroom teacher of Viet Anh's class at Hanoi National University of Education High School for the past 3 years, commented that although the male student is small, he has a great will to progress. "He always shows meticulousness and determination in studying and knows how to organize and arrange lessons. He is also a person who is not afraid of difficulties, dares to try his hand at many fields and is always proactive in looking for scholarships to apply for," Ms. Thao shared.
Regarding future plans, after graduation, Viet Anh will be able to work in companies and organizations registered in Singapore (applicable to branches of these companies and organizations abroad) for 3 years. In the immediate future, the male student hopes to achieve good academic results and find internship opportunities during his undergraduate years before outlining his next plan.
