Improving the capacity to identify drug addiction for grassroots health workers

The training course welcomed Dr. Nguyen Hong Cau - Deputy Director of CDC Ca Mau to attend and give a speech, lecturers from the Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and the Department of Laboratory Testing - Diagnostic Imaging - Functional Testing (CDC Ca Mau), along with 50 trainees who are medical staff at the regional, commune/ward level participating in the work of determining drug addiction status; medical staff responsible for examining, diagnosing, managing and consulting on drug addiction treatment in the area.

Emphasizing the danger of drugs - a major threat that hinders the development of the country in general and the locality in particular, Dr. Cau affirmed that drug prevention and control is an urgent and regular task, requiring strong and synchronous coordination from the whole society. In particular, the health sector needs to focus on performing well the task of "harm reduction", contributing to effectively supporting functional sectors in monitoring, detecting and preventing the consequences caused by drugs.

During 3 days (October 15-17), students were instructed on the following contents: Definition and classification of drugs; How to identify drug addicts; Withdrawal syndrome and mental health; Diagnosis of drug addiction; Assessment of input and tolerance; Rapid test method to detect drugs in urine; Registration process for participation in Heroin addiction treatment with Methadone and addiction treatment transition process; Operating conditions for Heroin addiction treatment facilities with Methadone; Procedure for providing drugs to treat Heroin addiction with Methadone substitutes for many days; Drugs and their variations... Besides providing knowledge and procedures, students were also updated on legal documents related to the field of HIV/AIDS prevention and control, ensuring standardized and regulated activities.

The training course is an opportunity for health workers to exchange expertise and share practical experiences in HIV/AIDS prevention and control. By improving the knowledge and capacity of the specialized team, the activity contributes practically to the work of protecting and caring for people's health.
