Raising awareness of border protection for students

Maintaining sovereignty and border security is the common responsibility of all people, especially the young generation. Realizing that, the Border Guard Stations under the Provincial Border Guard Command actively coordinate with schools to organize many practical experience programs, contributing to educating awareness, fostering patriotism and responsibility to protect the border for students.

Over the years, the programs: “Border Lessons”, “Children Practice Being Border Guard Soldiers”, “A Day as a Soldier”… have become regular activities, attracting thousands of students to participate. Through this, students have direct access to knowledge about borders, better understand the sacred value of territorial sovereignty , and the responsibility to maintain national security.

Students of Long Sap Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities participate in the flag salute at milestone 255.

Every year, the Long Sap International Border Guard Station coordinates with schools in Long Sap and Chieng Son communes to organize the "Border Lesson" program right at the area of ​​national border marker No. 255. This is a "special class" for students to witness, hear historical stories and better understand the work of border management and protection by soldiers in green uniforms.

Phong Lan Kindergarten, Chieng Son Commune, in collaboration with Long Sap International Border Gate Border Guard Station, organized an experience program at landmark 255 with the theme "Beautiful homeland border". In a sacred and solemn space, the "green uniform teachers" imparted to the children basic knowledge about the territory, border lines, landmarks and shared simple and profound stories about the daily work of border guards.

Teacher Lai Thi Minh Hue, Principal of Phong Lan Kindergarten, shared: In the 2025-2026 school year, the school has 573 students, of which 154 are 5-year-old kindergarteners. As a border school, we pay special attention to educating students about territorial sovereignty. Every year, the school coordinates with the Border Guard Station to organize extracurricular activities on April 30 and December 22. Through the lessons taught by teachers and soldiers, students gain more understanding of history, develop national pride, and awareness of border protection from an early age.

Not only in Long Sap, in the border commune of Phieng Pan, at the beginning of the new school year, Phieng Pan Border Guard Station coordinated with the Commune Military Command and ethnic boarding schools to organize experiential activities for nearly 2,000 students. Participating in the program, students were instructed on how to arrange internal affairs, personal hygiene, exercise, study methods, practice self-management skills, and collective spirit. In particular, the experiential sessions all included propaganda content on border sovereignty, maintaining security and order, and obeying the law.

Lieutenant Colonel Quang Van Kiem, Deputy Political Commissar of Phieng Pan Border Guard Station, said: We have surveyed and established a working group to go to each school to implement activities right from the beginning of the school year. The experiential programs have helped students practice discipline, life skills and foster patriotism and awareness of protecting border sovereignty. They are inspired to become responsible citizens, ready to contribute to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland.

Giang A Senh, an 8th grade student at Na Ot Primary and Secondary Boarding School, said: “I am very happy to participate in the program and have learned many useful things. I know how to fold my blankets neatly and maintain my personal hygiene. More importantly, I understand more about my responsibility in protecting my homeland and country.”

From “Border Lessons” to “A Day as a Soldier”, from simple lessons to life skills training activities, all aim at the common goal of sowing the seeds of patriotism, fostering national pride and awareness of protecting sovereignty for the young generation in border areas. This is a creative and effective way to build a generation of young citizens with knowledge and courage, ready to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors to protect every inch of the sacred land of the Fatherland.
