Raising awareness of preserving cultural identity for ethnic minority students

In many mountainous provinces, incorporating national traditions into each lesson and extracurricular activity not only helps students understand more about their homeland's history and culture, but also fosters in them pride and a sense of responsibility for preserving the nation's cultural heritage.

In the context of today's integration, when the pace of modern life is getting faster and faster, social networks are getting closer to children, it is even more meaningful for students to be exposed to and learn about traditional culture right from school. In Lam Thuong commune, Lao Cai province, Lam Thuong Primary School has become a bright spot not only in teaching literacy and people, but also a place to kindle love for traditional culture for the young generation.

Ethnic minority students are encouraged to wear their ethnic costumes to school, especially on major holidays, opening ceremonies and the first Monday of the week.

From early morning, under the bright red flags in front of the school gate, groups of students in their national costumes walked into the classroom. Not only did they bring books, they also brought with them the excitement of learning about their homeland’s origin and identity.

Here, the lessons are not only limited to writing or numbers, but students also get acquainted with the sounds of instruments and dances. These activities bring the breath of the mountains and forests into the classroom, so that the tradition is not only contained in books, but also comes alive in every experience.

Teacher Dinh Cong Hien, Principal of Lam Thuong Primary School, said: With more than 90% of students being ethnic minorities, the school has built an integrated program, organized folk culture clubs, and invited local artisans to participate in teaching. Through this, students not only understand more about history and customs, but are also encouraged to be proud of and appreciate their national identity.

There is also a small exhibition corner in the school grounds - where musical instruments, books, and images related to the cultural life of ethnic minorities are kept. This is a special "cultural library", so that each student can find a part of their ethnic memory when entering.

When the school drum sounded to signal recess, the school yard suddenly turned into a bustling stage. The rounds of songs and dances spread joy, connecting teachers and students in traditional dances. The innocent smiles and sparkling eyes of the children were proof of the journey of sowing the seeds of cultural love from simple but meaningful lessons.

After days of studying at school, the students return to their villages with not only knowledge but also pride in tradition.

From the highland school of Lam Thuong, the seeds of love for the homeland and national pride are being nurtured day by day. Today’s students will be the ones to continue, preserve and spread the good values ​​of the nation to the future.
