“Sunshine on the Mountain” helps dreams come true for students of Bac Ha Secondary and High School

This is an activity within the framework of Project 8 on “Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children” chaired by the Vietnam Women's Union, in coordination with relevant ministries and branches. At the same time, this is also the result of survey, collection and documentation activities conducted by the Vietnam Women's Museum in March 2024 in Bac Ha district.

The event “Sunshine on the Mountain” was held in Lao Cai province for more than 600 students and teachers of Bac Ha Secondary and High School, Bac Ha district. The event is a communication activity to arouse and encourage the spirit of overcoming difficulties and pursuing dreams of students; spreading the message “Ethnic minority women should confidently take control of their lives”.

The event was attended by more than 600 students from Bac Ha Secondary and High School, Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet - Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, Director of the Vietnam Women's Museum, was pleased to share the outstanding achievements that Bac Ha district has achieved, with the establishment of 8 trusted address models and nearly 130 members and 13 "Leaders of Change" clubs in schools. The efforts of Project 8 have begun to bring positive impacts to the lives of women and children in ethnic minority, mountainous and remote areas. "We have seen a strong change in the awareness and actions of women, from family to society. To achieve this result, I would like to sincerely thank the attention and close direction of the Party committees, local authorities, as well as the close coordination between the Women's Union at all levels, and departments, branches and organizations", Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet emphasized.

Mr. Tran Xuan Thao, Vice Chairman of Bac Ha District People's Committee, also shared: "Project 8 has brought many opportunities and hopes for equality and development for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas. Especially for students, the 'Leaders of Change' Club model has helped them equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills."

Within the framework of the event, the exchange program "Shine Confidently" took place with two special guests, who are ethnic minority youths with stories of "breaking through prejudices", striving to shine and spread positive energy in the community: Sung Thi So, Mong ethnic group, Yen Bai province, currently working at a Law Firm in Hanoi; H'Nen Nie, E De ethnic group, Dak Lak province, currently a student at the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Also at the event, the exhibition “My Dream” organized by the Vietnam Women’s Museum was opened. The exhibition is about stories and sharing about the journey of women and children in the highlands who have been trying to overcome gender barriers through many effective activities of Project 8 and typically the model “Leaders of Change” established in schools in Lao Cai, Gia Lai, Dien Bien, Quang Binh and many other localities across the country…

The picture of the reality, barriers, dreams and aspirations of students at Bac Ha Secondary and High School (Bac Ha district, Lao Cai) and Phan Boi Chau Secondary School (Chu Puh district, Gia Lai) in the exhibition carries a strong message calling for joint efforts to accompany ethnic minority and mountainous women and children in the journey to eliminate gender barriers to affirm their position in the family and society.
