President Biden signed the bill into law just hours before the midnight deadline of September 30 (US time). This temporary budget law will allow the government to continue operating until November 17.
Earlier in the day, in a last-minute effort to avoid a partial government shutdown, the US House of Representatives passed the bill with 335 votes in favor and 91 votes against. The bill, proposed by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, aims to fund the government for 45 days but does not include additional aid for Ukraine.
If the bill fails to pass Congress, the US government will partially shut down at exactly 0:01 on October 1. Federal agencies have even drawn up detailed plans, which clearly state which federal activities will continue or stop.
To prevent a government shutdown, the US legislature and executive branch have approved a temporary spending bill that does not include aid to Ukraine.
