The report said that in the period of 2023-2025, infrastructure and facilities for waterway tourism in Nghe An province have been initially formed, meeting the needs of tourists. Tourism products are gradually diversifying, combining river experiences with local culture, attracting tourists inside and outside the province, thereby contributing to promoting the image and creating livelihoods for local communities.
The advantage of a long coastline, near-shore islands, a rich ecological river and lake system, many scenic spots, cultural heritages associated with the sea, rivers, lakes... helps Nghe An facilitate the implementation of waterway tourism activities.
Recently, the province has paid great attention to and focused on developing and exploiting waterway tourism products such as investing in the transportation system, developing tourism products, promoting tourism products, attracting customers to use waterway tourism products, etc.
Many localities with advantages in developing waterway tourism products such as Cua Lo Ward, Truong Vinh Ward, Van An Commune, Mon Son Commune, Thien Nhan Commune, etc. are coordinating with the Waterway Tourism Service Company to have investment plans, upgrade facilities on boats and accompanying business conditions, promote sustainable tourism (Preserving heritage values and reducing plastic waste); improve the quality and diversity of accompanying services; Connecting regions and historical relics, scenic spots, tourist attractions inside and outside the locality, neighboring areas to create diversity and richness in types of tourism, sightseeing, and experiences. Creating a chain of attractive and unique tourism products, contributing to environmental protection and promoting local values.
During this period, Nghe An welcomed 39,700 visitors participating in waterway tourism activities, with revenue of over 10.1 billion VND, accounting for a very small proportion compared to the total number of visitors and tourism revenue of the whole province. Revenue from waterway tourism mainly comes from transportation, food, accommodation, and other combined supporting services at riverside and coastal locations.
According to the assessment, the process of developing, managing and implementing waterway tourism activities always receives attention from all levels and sectors, encouraging and supporting businesses to deploy waterway tourism models.
With the advantage of a long coastline, near-shore islands, a rich ecological river and lake system, many scenic spots, cultural heritages associated with the sea, rivers, lakes, etc., it has been favorable for the implementation of waterway tourism activities, helping the number of tourists increase rapidly, expanding the demand for developing waterway tourism products and services.
Nghe An is implementing the Cua Lo deep-water port project to help Nghe An become an international cargo transit center, and can also be exploited to receive international tourist ships; New and unique waterway tourism models should receive positive responses from tourists and people.
In order to continue promoting the development of waterway tourism, Nghe An province proposed that the Government consider issuing mechanisms and policies to encourage investment in waterway tourism wharf infrastructure.
Recommend relevant Ministries and Branches to issue documents guiding procedures for granting licenses for water tourism; recognize floating house models for tourism exploitation (without engines and fixed moorings); guide technical standards for boat docks and waterway tourism vehicles.
