'Suffocating' double canoe race during flood season in An Giang

Thousands of people crowded the banks of Chau Phong River to cheer on 40 double canoe racing teams, creating a rare, bustling festival atmosphere.

On October 4, the People's Committee of Chau Phong commune, An Giang province organized a double boat race during the flood season, attracting thousands of people from inside and outside the province to watch.

Mr. Tran Van Hop, Vice Chairman of Chau Phong Commune People's Committee, said that "Chau Phong Floating Season Boat Racing Competition - Homeland Waves 2025" is a meaningful activity, aiming to arouse and promote the tradition of patriotism, solidarity, and physical training following the example of great Uncle Ho.

This is also an opportunity to create a healthy and useful playground, connecting the emotions between units and athletes inside and outside the commune; promoting the image of the land and people of Chau Phong to friends and tourists near and far; contributing to promoting the sports movement, developing tourism and the spiritual and cultural life of local people.

"The boat racing tournament will create conditions for boat racing athletes inside and outside the commune to compete, exchange and learn from each other's experiences. Thereby promoting the image of the land and people of Chau Phong to friends inside and outside the commune, attracting tourists, contributing to the development of the local tourism economy ," said Mr. Hop.

The activity also aims to create a vibrant atmosphere, spread the spirit of solidarity, national pride and excitement among the people, practically welcome the 1st Congress of An Giang Provincial Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030 and develop a new type of sport, serving the material and spiritual enjoyment needs of the people in the commune.

This is the first year the Chau Phong - Homeland Water Waves 2025 Boat Race has been organized. There are 40 teams (each team has 2 men and 1 woman) with over 120 athletes from the communes and wards of Chau Phong, My Duc, Hoa Lac and Long Phu ward participating.

The double canoe race attracted thousands of people to come and experience. After the double canoe race, there was also a folk game called "Catching ducks on the river" (20 ducks).
