Israeli army continues to deploy operations in northern Gaza
AFP reported that explosions continued to occur in the Shujaiya area near Gaza City on June 29. The number of casualties is increasing.
On the same day, the Israeli army announced that the military operation was still underway in Shujaiya, with fighting taking place above ground and underground. Israeli units applied the tactic of raiding specific targets with air support.
Israel claimed to have killed a large number of Hamas militants, while Hamas has not commented on this information. A day earlier, Hamas and the armed wing of Islamic Jihad both confirmed that they were fighting in Shujaiya.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that between 60,000 and 80,000 people have fled Shujaiya this week.
The military operation in northern Gaza comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced last Sunday (June 23) that the "fierce phase" of the war was winding down after nearly nine months of deployment.
However, experts warn that the risk of conflict is moving to the next stage, and the tense situation in the north is a concrete proof.
Gaza Health Authority said that as of June 29, at least 37,834 Palestinians had been killed and 86,858 injured since Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
