(Dan Tri) - Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh excellently set a national record for the 42km distance at the Hanoi Marathon 2024 international tournament.
In the 42km women's race at the Hanoi Marathon 2024 international tournament held on the morning of September 22, the "golden girl" of Vietnamese athletics, Nguyen Thi Oanh, won the championship, leaving behind two people, Le Thi Tuyet and Pham Thi Hong Le. Notably, with a time of 2 hours 44 minutes 20 seconds, Nguyen Thi Oanh also surpassed the national record of Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa (2 hours 44 minutes 52 seconds) set at the Hong Kong Marathon earlier this year.

This is a very impressive achievement of Nguyen Thi Oanh in the wet and slippery running conditions, due to the influence of rain in Hanoi. With another new national record in the 42km marathon, "Queen of Athletics" Nguyen Thi Oanh continues to create a remarkable personal mark in the athletics village. The runner from Bac Giang previously held national records in many running distances, including 3,000m obstacle course, 5,000m, 10,000m, 21km, and most recently 42km. In the men's 42km event at the Hanoi Marathon 2024 international tournament, veteran Kenyan runner Kiptoo Edwin proved his class when he finished first with a time of 2 hours 30 minutes 32 seconds, 8 seconds more than the runner-up Japhet Rono (2 hours 30 minutes 40 seconds).
