On October 9, in Hanoi , journalist Le Xuan Son introduced his collection of works with the participation of many artists and journalists. All three books were published by the Writers Association Publishing House.
The poetry collection “I have been a city person for a long time” consists of 49 poems, 100 pages thick, with a picture supplement. An important part of the poetry collection is the nostalgia of people who have moved from the countryside to the city for a long time. Besides, there are poems inspired by contemporary issues such as the sea and islands of the Fatherland, the living environment, epidemics... The content of the poems is diverse, from love for the homeland and country, to love for family and couples; from current issues to thoughts and worries about life... The author uses many poetic forms such as free verse, 5-word verse, 7-word verse and six-eight verse.
The collection of essays and literary portraits “White Clouds Still Fly” is about more than 20 writers, poets, painters, musicians... These include Trinh Cong Son, Phu Quang, Quang Dung, Huu Loan, Duong Bich Lien, To Ngoc Van, Diem Phung Thi, Le Ba Dang, To Hoai, To Huu, Ho Xuan Huong, Dang Tran Con... Some of the portraits are the author's own feelings and memories of the writers and artists he had the chance to meet, talk to, and interview while writing. Some other portraits of people who have passed away or those the author has not had the chance to meet are created using documents and anecdotes.
The author tries to reveal something about the quintessence of Vietnamese talents, about works like precious cultural sediments that will forever remain with the country.
The travelogue “Like the Water of the River of Me” is rich in literature and documents about 11 of the countries the author has had the opportunity to visit, such as Japan, Laos, Russia, France, Germany, England, the Netherlands, the United States, Cuba, and Ecuador. Le Xuan Son’s writings focus on the depth of culture, history of the countries and their relationships with Vietnam, especially their affection. Journalist Le Xuan Son said, “Like the Water of the River of Me” is the first book in a series of travelogues by himself - a person who has been fortunate enough to visit many countries in the world .
At the book launch, journalist Phung Cong Suong, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper, expressed his pride: “Journalist Le Xuan Son has launched three books at the same time, a rare event in the journalism world. In many years of working, few journalists, writers, and poets, immediately after “leaving office” (retiring), can publish three publications at the same time. That shows a persistent, serious and powerful working process of journalist Le Xuan Son...”.
Journalist Le Xuan Son said that his business trips were often marked by journalistic works, most of which were memoirs, reports, and notes with a strong literary quality. He wrote in many genres, from news to memoirs, reports, interviews, essays, essays, political commentary... and even poetry. His persistence in writing and not being easy with his pen helped him accumulate a significant amount of works that have stood the test of time. Thanks to that, he gathered manuscripts of several books, of which the three works above were only the first edition.
Regarding this event, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, said: "With two volumes of memoirs, travelogues and a collection of poems published at the same time and Le Xuan Son himself being a true journalist, I still want to call him a poet because what he feels, what he writes and, importantly, what is contained in his words has revealed his soul."
According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, an extremely important thing for a writer is the ability to turn social events, ordinary life events into events of the soul. Le Xuan Son has this important ability and he has done it very effectively. There are many of his poems, if we strip away all the images, destroy all the words and layers of emotions that belong to poetry, we will see the truths of social life appear. These truths have passed through and resonated in a poet's soul and they have a different beauty and spirit. That is the power of art. And that is what Le Xuan Son has done.
Sharing at the book launch, journalist Ho Quang Loi, former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said: “The three “brainchildren” are like triplets, each one is beautiful. Each work has its own beauty, but I think it is all the beauty of Le Xuan Son’s soul and spirit.”
