Hoi An Prison - "red address" in the heart of the old town

ĐNO - Located in the middle of Hoi An ancient town, Hoi An Prison relic is a place that preserves memories of revolutionary struggles and is a meaningful destination for locals and tourists.

Hoi An Prison Relic is located at 240/12 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hoi An Ward, Da Nang City.

According to the Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Center - the management unit of Hoi An Prison relic, this place was built by the US imperialists and the US-Diem puppet government in 1960 under the name "Xom Moi Prison" or " Quang Nam Rehabilitation Center".

In the past, Hoi An Prison was considered an extremely barbaric and savage "hell on earth" of the enemy against our compatriots and soldiers.

Today, Hoi An Prison has become a "red address" in the heart of Hoi An ancient town, regularly opened for people, tourists, and organizations to visit and participate in traditional activities.

Hoi An Prison is a revolutionary historical relic recognized as a provincial relic by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province under Decision No. 559/QD-UBND dated February 8, 2007.

In 2012, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province started the project to restore and embellish Hoi An prison relic with a total investment of more than 19 billion VND to restore, rehabilitate and prevent deterioration of items to promote the value of the relic.

During the period 1960 - 1975, this was the place where thousands of cadres, soldiers and people from Quang Nam and some other provinces were imprisoned and tortured by the enemy while participating in the revolution. Photo: XUAN SON

The patriotic prisoner associations of Quang Nam and Da Nang and many witnesses have provided 62 artifacts, 3,390 related patriotic prisoner biographies and dozens of poems composed at Hoi An prison along with many other valuable information and documents for the exhibition space at Hoi An Prison relic.
