Cau Ngu Festival is a traditional festival, reflecting the characteristics of fishing beliefs, expressing the legitimate aspirations of Binh Thuan fishermen, praying for peace and good harvests in marine economic activities; gratitude to the sea, in which Whale and the sea gods play an important role in spiritual life, a support for them to place their trust and peace of mind when working at sea. With such typical values, in 2019, Cau Ngu Festival was included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The 2023 Cau Ngu Festival takes place from August 1 to 8 with many unique cultural and tourism activities, promising to be an event that attracts tourists to Phan Thiet City in particular and Binh Thuan Province in general.
Mr. Nguyen The Dung, Deputy Head of the Cau Ngu Festival Organizing Committee, said: Immediately after the city issued the festival plan, the Organizing Committee established 6 sub-committees with specific content and tasks, ensuring implementation according to traditional customs. Up to now, the basic preparation work has been ensured according to the progress and plan. The forces participating in the festival are assigned to monitor and supervise each stage of work.
The preservation and sustainable promotion of the unique folk cultural values of the Cau Ngu Festival not only meets the religious and spiritual needs of local people but also aims to turn the festival into an attractive tourism product that attracts domestic and foreign tourists; especially this year, Binh Thuan hosts the National Tourism Year 2023 - Binh Thuan - Green Convergence. This is also an opportunity for Phan Thiet City to introduce and promote its tourism potential and unique cultural features to domestic and international tourists.
Ensuring security, order, traffic safety, environmental sanitation and safety for people and tourists is always a top priority. The sub-committees have plans and implement garbage collection; traffic diversion and parking arrangement to facilitate visitors to visit and have fun. For the main ceremony, the Organizing Committee coordinates with the forces to organize the protection of the Lenh Ong Sanh procession from Hon Lao to Con Cha estuary; arrange fishermen's boats to anchor in the right place to ensure the festival activities take place on Ca Ty River as planned. With careful and thoughtful preparation, along with its inherent unique features, the Cau Ngu Festival 2023 will contribute to attracting tourists to Phan Thiet to relax, visit, and learn about cultural values; contributing to the construction and development of a unique coastal tourist city of Phan Thiet.
After nearly 15 years since the first time it was held at the city level, this year the Cau Ngu Festival was organized by the People's Committee of Phan Thiet City on a grander scale and with more special activities. The ceremony will take place from August 6 to 8 with traditional rituals such as: The procession of Ong Sanh's Order from Hon Lao to Con Cha estuary to Duc Thanh Bridge and both sides of the road along Ca Ty River; the lantern launching ceremony on Ca Ty River.
