Provinces and cities reward hundreds of millions of dong to excellent international students

According to Government regulations, students who win international Olympic prizes will be awarded 55 million VND, 35 million VND and 25 million VND, corresponding to the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

In addition to the Government's rewards, some provinces and cities also have special policies for students who win international, regional and national Olympic prizes with very high rewards.

Quang Ninh is currently at the top of the reward scale for students winning International Olympic Gold Medals with 700 million, followed by Hai Phong and Bac Ninh with 500 million, followed by Vinh Phuc with 400 million.

According to the Resolution on the reward and support regime for training excellent students for students and teachers who won prizes from the 2021-2022 school year to the 2025-2026 school year of Quang Ninh province, the highest reward is 700 million for students who won first prize at the international level, 500 million for excellent students at the international regional level, and 50 million for national students. In addition, students who won prizes and are ethnic minorities are rewarded 1.5 times the above-mentioned reward level.

Regarding the "huge reward" for excellent students who won the International Olympic medal in Quang Ninh province, Prof. Dr. Pham Tat Dong, former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, once shared with Dan Viet : "It is difficult to say whether such a reward for excellent students is worthy or not because we have to see how the rewards in other fields in Quang Ninh are. But this is a big and very generous reward from this province."

According to Prof. Dr. Pham Tat Dong, Quang Ninh is a place with potential for development in many fields. Although the way of rewarding each province will be different, and spontaneous, certainly many other provinces have not done it. "In any field, there should be awards for talented people," Prof. Dr. Pham Tat Dong affirmed.

According to Resolution No. 06/2018/NQ-HDND issued by Hai Phong City People's Council on July 12, 2018, effective from August 1, 2018, students who won the international First Prize (Gold Medal) of Hai Phong will be awarded 500 million VND, Second Prize (Silver Medal), Third Prize (Bronze Medal) will be awarded 400 and 300 million VND respectively, Encouragement Prize 100 million VND.

On July 31, the People's Committee of Hai Phong City held a ceremony to commend and reward Hai Phong students and teachers who achieved high results in the 2023-2024 regional and international Olympic competitions with more than 2.7 billion VND.

According to Decision 976/QD-UBND recently issued by the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province, excellent students who won prizes and managers and teachers who participated in training teams of excellent students who won prizes in national, regional and international competitions in the 2023-2024 school year of the province will be rewarded with a total amount of nearly 5.2 billion VND.

In the award ceremony that took place later, Nguyen Huu Tien Hung - a student of Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, won the Gold Medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad and was awarded 500 million VND.

In Vinh Phuc, according to Resolution No. 40/2019/NQ-HDND of the Provincial People's Council, effective from 2019, which is being applied on the reward policy for students, teachers with students winning prizes and being valedictorians in exams and competitions for excellent students at all levels, Vinh Phuc students winning Gold Medals at International Olympics will be awarded 400 million VND, Silver 300 million, Bronze 200 million and Encouragement 150 million VND.
