Thuan Thanh War Invalids Nursing Center under the Department of Meritorious People ( Ministry of Home Affairs ) is treating 84 of the most seriously wounded and sick soldiers in the country. Most of the wounded soldiers here have severe disabilities ranging from 81% to 100%. Some have lost both arms, lost legs, damaged eyes, most have spinal injuries, are paralyzed from the lower body, have lost sensation, and must use wheelchairs or rocking chairs to move. Many people still have shrapnel and bomb fragments in their bodies, and have to suffer from chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney stones, etc.

Mr. Truong Dang Binh, Deputy Director of the Center, said: “When the weather changes and the seasons change, the wounded soldiers’ bodies ache and have convulsions, requiring painkillers to be injected into each area of the skin that is still soft. Even a small scratch can turn into a difficult-to-heal ulcer, even life-threatening. However, the wounded soldiers are always resilient. They do not give up or rely on others. They seek knowledge and work to assert themselves and continue to contribute to their families and society.”

A typical example is disabled veteran Le Duc Luan (from Phu Tho) - who has persevered in studying for a long time to get a Level 2 Technical Worker certificate in electronics repair. When he had the degree and skills, he opened a repair shop and supplied electronic components; invested in generators and speakers for weddings. The family's economy gradually stabilized, enough to support 4 children to study and grow up. Despite his old age, he is still passionate about reading books, learning, and listening to the news. He always reminds his children and grandchildren to live responsibly, nurturing patriotism and national pride.

Not relying on the support of the State, imbued with Uncle Ho's teaching "Disabled but not useless", the disabled soldiers always have strong faith, will and determination. Depending on their health, they still try to take care of themselves, share some of the housework, and work extra to help their families.

Love soothes pain

Thuan Thanh War Invalids Nursing Center is a red address, a place to preserve the indomitable spirit and strong will of the outstanding children. In the atmosphere of the whole country looking forward to War Invalids and Martyrs Day July 27, the Center welcomed many delegations from the Central to localities and units to visit, encourage and express gratitude.

Teachers and students of Newton Thuan Thanh Kindergarten visited and encouraged wounded and sick soldiers at Thuan Thanh Nursing Center for War Invalids.

The delegation of Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Newton Thuan Thanh Kindergarten brought an emotional performance. After performing the song "The Fatherland Calls My Name" for the wounded and sick soldiers, student Le Nguyen Duy Hung confided: "Coming here, I feel more deeply the pain of the wounded and sick soldiers, the sacrifice of the previous generation, understand more about the heroic history of the nation, and at the same time realize the meaning and value of peace."

“The Party and the State always pay special attention to taking care of people with meritorious services, especially war invalids and seriously ill soldiers like us, through the establishment of a nursing center and maintaining its good operation. This is a common home with a team of cadres and employees who treat, care for and share the pain of each war invalid and sick soldier every day and every hour with the sense of responsibility and affection of family members” - war invalid Nguyen Van Thanh (from Thanh Hoa province) shared.

With 25 years of experience at the Center, Dr. Pham Thi Pha, Deputy Head of the Medical Department of Thuan Thanh Nursing Center for War Invalids, confided: Due to circumstances and severe injuries, the psychology of war invalids and sick soldiers is very sensitive and easily angered. In addition to high expertise, the team of doctors, nurses and nurses must be compassionate, skillful, gentle and know how to listen; not only providing medical assistance but also being friends and comrades who comfort and encourage.

Under the warm roof, where patients and caregivers have deep sympathy, 15 nurses have become wives of wounded and sick soldiers. They have devoted their whole lives to caring for and building a warm family with love. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mai, wife of wounded soldier Vu Van Thang, said: “I am also a soldier, working as a nurse at the Center since 1976. Taking care of him is not only a professional responsibility but also a comradeship. From sympathy, we became husband and wife, together we raised 3 children to adulthood.”

Celebrating War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27 is an occasion for everyone to turn to their roots and show gratitude to war invalids, martyrs, and those with meritorious services. The beautiful actions and practical work of the whole society in general and Thuan Thanh War Invalids Nursing Center in particular help those with meritorious services feel the care and sharing. In this place, the lifeblood is still full of the will and determination of war invalids and sick soldiers.
