When farmers are empowered and given capital
In recent years, many households in Tien Canh commune, Tien Phuoc district have converted acacia land to fruit trees, encouraged and supported by local authorities. A typical example is the model of converting acacia land to fruit trees of Mr. Truong Van Sanh's family (70 years old, village 2, Tien Canh commune) which has initially shown results.
Mr. Truong Van Sanh is harvesting guava. According to Mr. Sanh, to "make a living from the short term", he intercrops guava, Thai jackfruit, and banana trees...
Implementing Resolution 35 of the Provincial People's Council on developing garden economy and farm economy (period 2021 - 2025), Mr. Truong Van Sanh's family has boldly converted nearly 1.2 hectares of acacia land to invest in growing fruit trees such as mangosteen, durian, green-skinned grapefruit...
Mr. Sanh said that his family used to plant hybrid acacia trees on this Go land, but the acacia trees were growing when a storm swept them down. Since then, he decided not to plant acacia anymore and instead invested in growing fruit trees.
Thinking is doing, Mr. Sanh hired an excavator to open the road, leveled the soil, dug up rocks to improve the land and piled them into neat rows to plant valuable fruit trees. Among them, the family planted 115 mangosteen trees, 85 durian trees, 80 green-skinned grapefruit trees, and 800 areca trees. To "take the short term to support the long term", Mr. Sanh intercropped guava, Thai jackfruit, and banana trees...
Tien Phuoc is known as the land of the largest fruit orchard in Quang Nam province. A farmer in Tien Tho commune next to a fruit orchard full of fruit.
"Investing in multi-crop, multi-level, multi-tree gardening, not focusing on one type of tree, will make full use of the land, using the short term to support the long term.
This tree compensates for another tree, when this tree fails, another tree will compensate, planted like this, the garden will provide income all year round.
To have a water source for the fruit trees, I dug a well nearly 80m deep at the foot of the hill and installed a pipeline system nearly 1km long to pump water to the reservoir to irrigate the plants. The irrigation system was invested in semi-automatic, dripping under the tree roots, ensuring water in the dry season and saving water.
Thanks to careful investment and care, the plants are about 2 years old and are growing well. Currently, some plants such as areca, guava, and dwarf banana have begun to be harvested," Mr. Sanh shared.
Many households in Tien Tho commune have stepped up garden renovation thanks to Resolution 35 of the Provincial People's Council and Project 03 of Tien Phuoc district.
Looking at the orchard of fruit trees of all kinds growing green after only two years of planting, Mr. Sanh could not hide his joy. "The orchard is growing well, especially guava, banana and areca trees have been harvested. On the same area, if compared to growing acacia, growing fruit trees gives many times more income.
In addition to taking care of the Go hill garden, my wife and I also invested in renovating our home garden of more than 16 sao, planting fruit trees such as longan, do bau, areca, bananas of all kinds... Each year the garden brings in an income of approximately 100 million VND," Mr. Sanh said excitedly.
During the process of developing the fruit garden, Tien Canh commune officials and the District Agricultural Technical Center came down to guide the preparation of documents and procedures for implementing Resolution 35 and received post-investment support from the state with an amount of nearly 75 million VND. It is known that Tien Canh is one of the leading localities in the district in implementing Project 03 and Resolution 35.
Thanks to practical Resolutions, many garden owners in Quang Nam are making a lot of money from fruit trees.
Mr. Vo Duy Nhan - Officer of Tien Phuoc District Agricultural Technical Center said: "The shift in crop structure from acacia trees to fruit trees with high economic value is a direction to help farmers improve production efficiency and increase income.
In recent times, the Center has regularly coordinated with communes and towns to organize training courses on science and technology in planting and caring for fruit trees. Along with training, Center staff also go to gardens to directly guide farmers on care, irrigation, and pest control. Thereby, contributing to helping farmers invest in expanding the area of fruit trees for high economic efficiency.
Resolution to help farmers get rich
Like Tien Canh, Resolution 35 encouraged and guided Tien Tho farmers to renovate mixed gardens and change crop structure.
Along with farmers' experience, support policies on seedlings, irrigation systems, and technical training organized by authorities at all levels have become a driving force for Tien Tho garden economy.
A typical example is the fruit garden of more than 5 sao of Mr. Huynh Duc Le (village 5, Tien Tho commune). Previously, Mr. Le worked as a worker for construction contractors in the district and province. About 10 years ago, Mr. Le returned to his hometown to focus on renovating and arranging his garden, planting valuable fruit trees such as mangosteen, durian, green-skinned grapefruit, areca, banana...
Like Tien Canh, Resolution 35 has encouraged and guided Tien Tho farmers to renovate mixed gardens and change crop structure.
To ensure the plants grow well, Mr. Le invested in building a reservoir and installing a nearly 1km long water supply system from Ho Xanh mountain to irrigate the plants. Thanks to careful care, the plants in the garden grow well, bringing in an annual income of about 50 million VND.
In particular, in the past 3 years since Tien Tho commune mobilized people to develop garden economy and farm economy according to Resolution 35 of the Provincial People's Council, Mr. Le continued to boldly invest in planting 38 new mangosteen trees, installing a semi-automatic irrigation system for the garden and pulling B40 steel mesh to fence the entire garden. Along with that, Mr. Le's family also focused on renovating the fence and gate in a green-clean-beautiful and effective direction and received nearly 49 million VND from the District People's Committee and Tien Tho commune.
According to the report of Tien Tho Commune People's Committee from 2022 - 2024, the whole commune has 72 households registered to implement, inspected and accepted by the state with post-investment support of over 2.7 billion VND.
Of which, in 2022, 28 households registered to implement on an area of 10 hectares, with state funding of 784 million VND. Mangosteen gardens of Tien Tho farmers are lush. According to the report of Tien Tho Commune People's Committee from 2022 - 2024, the whole commune has 72 households registered to implement, inspected and accepted by the state with post-investment support of over 2.7 billion VND.
"The quality of garden models implemented according to Resolution 35 of the Provincial People's Council has been invested in by the people in a synchronous and systematic manner, and has been highly appreciated by the District People's Committee through supervision and actual inspection.
The level of intensive farming, application of scientific and technical advances, and pest control by farmers have had positive changes. Thanks to that, the lives of people in the district are increasingly better...", said the leader of Tien Phuoc District People's Committee.

Mr. Le Nguyen Hung - Chairman of Tien Tho Commune People's Committee, Tien Phuoc District, acknowledged that the garden economy and farm economy in Tien Tho have developed in the right direction and achieved positive results thanks to the response and active participation of local people. According to statistics, the total garden area in Tien Phuoc district is 6,214 hectares, of which the area with economic efficiency is 5,844 hectares, accounting for 77%.
