Associate Professor, Dr. My Hanh said: "I started researching slime molds when I was studying for my master's degree at Kasetsart University (Thailand 2014 - 2016) under the guidance of one of the world 's leading slime mold scientists, Professor Steven L Stephenson (University of Arkansas, USA)".

After reading a lot of documents about active ingredients from slime molds, mushrooms and plants, Associate Professor Hanh connected the information and had the idea to propose the above project. In addition, Associate Professor Hanh also wanted to learn more about pharmaceutical chemistry, so she looked for relevant scientists and came across the research works of Professor Yvan Vander Heyden of Vrije Universiteit Brussel, which was very suitable for the direction she wanted to pursue. Therefore, Dr. Hanh contacted this professor to present her ideas and wishes. She was connected with a professor specializing in neuroscience in the same department, Ann Van Eeckhaut.

After that, Associate Professor Dr. Hanh and two professors from Vrije Universiteit Brussel completed the outline to submit to the VLIR-UOS fund project (TEAM

VLIR-UOS). This is a fund that funds Dutch-speaking schools in Belgium to cooperate in research and education development with several countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

After several rounds of review, the project was funded by this fund with 279,999.5 euros, from 2022 to 2027. Associate Professor, Dr. Hanh is the project leader of the International University - Ho Chi Minh City National University, Professor Yvan and Professor Ann are the project leaders and co-leaders at VUB.
