On September 22, Mr. Luc Van Tam, Secretary of the Party Committee of Muong Chanh Commune (Muong Lat District, Thanh Hoa Province) said that in recent days, Muong Chanh Commune has been continuously experiencing heavy rains. Floodwaters from the upstream of the Vietnam - Laos border have caused the Sim stream to rise very high, flowing rapidly and seriously flooding provincial road 521E connecting to the center of Muong Lat District.

Currently, floods in Muong Chanh commune (Muong Lat district, Thanh Hoa province) are complicated.

"Currently, the unpredictable flood situation in the area has temporarily isolated the five upper villages and four lower villages of Muong Chanh commune, making it impossible to travel," Mr. Tam added.

Flood water continues to pour in and flow rapidly from some spillways in Muong Chanh commune.

According to the report of Muong Chanh commune, 4 spillways leading to residential areas were flooded more than 1 meter deep, even at some points the water flowed rapidly, rising nearly 2 meters above the surface of the spillway. Currently, the local government has relocated and evacuated about 18 households along Sim stream, where there is a risk of landslides, to the village writer's house and the cultural house of the Muong Chanh commune People's Committee to avoid flash floods, and at the same time transported people's assets to higher points.

Some households have been affected by flood waters.

Faced with the complicated flood situation, with the risk of landslides and flash floods, the Muong Chanh commune authorities have proactively coordinated with relevant authorities, Border Guards, Police, and militia to go to landslide-prone areas to mobilize and urgently evacuate people to safety since early this morning.

The government and people of Muong Chanh commune are actively moving and mobilizing people to safety.

Muong Chanh Commune is maintaining 100% of its regular military personnel, ready to participate in handling flood situations. At the same time, it is fully prepared with forces, vehicles, materials, communication equipment, food, and provisions to participate in prevention and rescue when bad situations occur.

The water rose so high that some sluices in Muong Chanh were isolated.
