Landslide on Road 433 in Phu Tho leaves many communes isolated

Due to the impact of storm No. 10, many areas on Provincial Road 433 to the highland communes: Cao Son, Tan Pheo, Quy Duc, Duc Nhan (Phu Tho province) have had dozens of landslides with a volume of thousands of cubic meters, causing traffic disruption. Many communes are in a state of local isolation.

Cao Son commune and the highland communes along Provincial Road 433, every rainy season, have serious landslides. Recently, due to prolonged heavy rains, nearly 17,000 cubic meters of rock and soil collapsed at Suoi Lao slope, Rang hamlet, Cao Son commune in just one night, blocking the road and spilling down the negative slope. The local authorities are making every effort to fix the situation as quickly as possible, to ensure safe travel and transport essential goods to people in isolated communes.

According to Cao Son commune's report, the Km24+800 section (Lao stream) is estimated to have eroded an additional 4,000m3 , Km36+100 an additional 1,200m3 , Km43+600 the amount of landslides is up to 2,300m3 . The whole commune has 39 households whose houses were flooded with soil, one house completely collapsed. 114 households with 449 people were forced to evacuate. Many inter-village and inter-hamlet roads were cut off, livestock and poultry were swept away. The total damage to the commune is estimated at more than 7 billion VND.

The entire provincial road 433 to the highland communes was cut off, greatly affecting the lives and activities of the people. Chairman of the People's Committee of Cao Son Commune, Bui Thi Hoa Binh, said that during the recent storms, the local authorities were always proactive in storm and flood prevention, especially putting up warning signs, setting up road closures, and guiding people to avoid roads. Each hamlet has a working group, on duty 24/7, to warn and guide people, ensuring safety during the rainy and stormy season. Road 433 is the only vital road to the communes, when this road is broken, it will affect the lives of thousands of households.

Local authorities of the communes requested Phu Tho province to support funding to repair and overcome landslides and damaged traffic routes to restore convenient traffic; and have a plan to soon repair Provincial Road 433, so that people can soon stabilize their lives.
