(NLDO) - Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company said the incident of wastewater overflowing into Cam Le River happened during rush hour.
On January 9, the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company informed about the incident of wastewater overflowing into the Cam Le River at the discharge gates on Thang Long Street, Cam Le District. The company admitted that the above incident "occurs occasionally due to overload during rush hours".
The location of the overflow into the river is the final pumping station, which transports wastewater to the Hoa Xuan wastewater treatment plant. Although the company has operated all 3 pumps as designed, during peak hours, wastewater still overflows into the river.
White foamy, foul-smelling wastewater is poured into Cam Le River.
Regarding the solution, Mr. Dang Minh Dung, Deputy Director of Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, said that the company has built temporary sand dams at the discharge gates, increasing the temporary storage capacity of wastewater and limiting overflow. At the same time, during peak hours, the company temporarily stops the operation of the discharge gates and mineralizes and sprays odors to minimize the bad smell.
Many fish died at the discharge gate of Thang Long road.
Mr. Dung said the cause of the above incident was due to frequent rains recently, increasing the water flow in the drainage system, leading to a reduction in the operating efficiency of the pumping station.
In addition, the pumping station at the location of the incident has not been handed over to the management company, leading to limitations in coordinating wastewater regulation and handling the overflow of wastewater at the discharge gates of Thang Long road.

Mr. Dung said the company has proposed to soon hand over the above pumping station for synchronous operation, to completely handle the situation of wastewater overflowing into the environment at the discharge gates.
Previously, the Lao Dong Newspaper had reported on the situation of black wastewater being discharged into the Cam Le River at the discharge gates into the Cam Le River. This section of the river has a total of 17 discharge gates, many of which have black wastewater and a foul smell flowing directly into the river.
