Under the cool green canopy of lim forest in Dai Dinh town, Tam Dao district ( Vinh Phuc province) is a long-standing pineapple garden of local people. According to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu, Dong Linh village: "Wherever there is shade of lim tree, there are pineapple trees that produce pineapples that are more fragrant, sweet, and juicy..."

Therefore, this fruit not only brings high income but is also a specialty of local people. When mentioning Tam Dao lim forest pineapple, everyone wants to enjoy this famous gift from the region.

Walking up to Mrs. Thu’s ironwood forest, I was overwhelmed by the green color of the pineapple garden. Under the alternating sunlight, through the ironwood canopy, the pineapple forest looked like a green silk carpet.

Adapted to the hilly terrain, each pineapple bush is large, spreading out so wide that one cannot hug it. Hidden among the green foliage are pleasing-to-the-eye yellow pineapples.

During the season of wild pineapple, the fruit is sold out as soon as it is harvested. Many people buy it as gifts for relatives and friends.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, Dong Linh village affirmed: "This is a type of pineapple, grown under the ironwood forest so it has a special delicious flavor.

My experience in growing pineapples shows that wherever there is a canopy of ironwood, the pineapples there are much more beautiful and shiny, not to mention the big eyes, fragrant and sweet compared to other areas. From the full moon of April, the wild ironwood pineapples have begun to ripen and have been harvested until now.

At the foot of the lim hill, people sell harvested pineapples right on the roadside. The pineapples are stacked on top of each other in large piles, but are quickly sold out due to the large number of customers.

After each phone call, the vendors take out sacks and plastic bags containing 10, 20, or 30 fruits to ship to customers. Although it is a rustic fruit, the wild pineapple is a precious gift, not always available and cannot be bought.

Lim forest pineapples are not as big as those in other places, each fruit weighs only about 3-5 taels, sold for 8,000-10,000 VND/fruit. The biggest fruit weighs about 1kg, costs about 15,000 VND/fruit but the quantity is very limited.

Small fruits are picked separately by locals and sold for 3,000 - 5,000 VND/fruit, for customers to buy and soak in wine.

Many passersby stopped by to buy pineapples grown in the ironwood forest in Dai Dinh town, Tam Dao district, Vinh Phuc province.

While sitting and selling, the women peeled pineapples nonstop. Because, in addition to buying to take home, many people also sit down to rest and eat pineapples on the spot.

Also because of the fragrant pineapple smell, passersby cannot resist the attraction of this specialty fruit.

Or on a long journey, many people get tired and want to stop to buy some pineapples, peel them on the spot and enjoy them to quench their summer thirst.

Lim forest pineapples cannot be weighed, and there are countless fruits. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Dai Dinh town, said: "My family has more than 1 hectare of pineapple. At peak times, my family harvests 5-8 bags of pineapples per day and earns about 1 million VND."

The hotter the sun, the more delicious and sweet the pineapples are. This year, many fruits failed, so pineapples are easier to sell and fetch a higher price.

Compared to other crops, the lim forest pineapple is highly appreciated by the people in terms of economy . Therefore, this fruit tree has been maintained by the people for decades.

According to the locals, growing pineapples does not require much care. The hardest part is when the season ends, when people have to weed and prune the pineapple bushes to make them less dense, then the plants will sprout, sprout and bear fruit.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa added: “Pineapples branch out quickly and in large numbers. If the young plants in the clumps are not pruned, the yield will not be high. Because the pineapple season is in the summer, families have to harvest early in the morning (around 5am), then sell wholesale to retailers, and bring the rest down to the street to sell retail to customers."

It is known that Tam Dao district currently has nearly 25 hectares of pineapple, in which Dai Dinh and Dao Tru are the two localities with the largest growing areas. Lim wood pineapple has been maintained by local people in a stable area for many years because it brings high income.
