Tien Giang: A 5-seat car running on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong highway collided with a truck going in the same direction, flipped over, causing a long traffic jam on the afternoon of February 19.

At around 2:00 p.m., a truck with a Tay Ninh license plate was traveling on the highway when it reached Tan Hoi Dong commune, Chau Thanh district and suddenly collided with a 5-seat car driven by Mr. Tran Van Khoi, 64 years old, going in the same direction.

The collision caused the 5-seat car to flip over, the front end crumpled, the airbags deployed, and many pieces of debris scattered. The accident did not cause any casualties, but the road through the area was congested for a long time because the accident car occupied an entire lane.

Nearly an hour later, the damaged vehicle was towed from the scene and traffic was cleared again.

According to the Road Administration Department IV - the management unit of the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway, the road surface where the accident occurred was smooth and had a complete traffic safety system. The cause of the collision was a 5-seat car overtaking on the left without looking.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway is nearly 62 km long, has 4 lanes, and has been in operation since 2010, with a maximum speed of 100 km/h. In early 2019, the expressway stopped collecting tolls, and the number of vehicles then increased by over 30%, to 40,000-50,000 vehicles per day, causing the road surface to be overloaded and damaged.
