On the afternoon of September 4, singer Pham Anh Khoa released the MV "Dan Toi Ca" , marking his return after a long absence.

Not only a new music product, Dan Toi Ca is also an important step in repositioning the image of a mature artist, imbued with culture and national identity.

Pham Anh Khoa feels pressured when releasing a new MV

Releasing the MV "Dan Toi Ca" at a time when many artists are touching on the theme of national culture is both a challenge and an opportunity for Pham Anh Khoa. He frankly admitted: "It would be a lie to say there is no pressure, but most of it is positive pressure."

The male singer compared today's music to the old proverb: "Buy in groups, sell in groups."

MV My People Sing

If in the past, a single artist had to manage to get the audience interested in an issue, now, when many people speak and act together, it is an opportunity to create a synchronous, layered, and oriented foundation.

"Each person will have a different perspective, like the story of the blind men and the elephant. It's hard for me to say that I'm describing everything.

I think the perspective of a Pham like me is that of a man, that if we are proud, what will we contribute?" - Pham Anh Khoa told Tuoi Tre Online .

Instead of continuing to pursue the image of an "explosive rocker", Pham Anh Khoa chose to slow down. In this music project, the male singer left space for his colleagues to speak up, creating a diversity of musical colors.

"When we sing and perform together, it creates a more colorful palette. Until now, my music has seemed a bit monotonous - reflecting my age and my early career path.

That is just enthusiasm and passion, but not enough responsibility and understanding of the role of a public servant. Now, I think I am at a more mature age to look back at everything and change" - he confided.

The artistic ego blends with the communal ego

Dan Toi Ca is a song that combines music, martial arts and traditional culture. The MV uses minimalist background images, deep lighting, and strong Vovinam movements - a very different image from Pham Anh Khoa's previous image.

The music in this song is not elaborate, does not "tell" too much of a story. Instead, he lets the folk elements speak for themselves. That is why Dan Toi Ca impresses with the way the music is made from the Vietnamese language itself.

The "ho oi ho" lyrics repeated over and over again in the song seem meaningless but are actually folk "sound seeds", containing cultural memories and the spirit of life of the Vietnamese people.

The male singer calls it "optimistic range" - sounds that create physical and mental joy, transmitting positive energy like the definition of the word "music" in Vietnamese.

Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , Pham Anh Khoa said the original name of the song was My Folk Song , which represents his personal perspective.

However, after 10 years, the male singer decided to take the name Dan Toi Ca to join the common joy of the country, and at the same time express a desire that according to Pham Anh Khoa is "very easy to achieve". That is solidarity, joining hands for positive values in peacetime.

Pham Anh Khoa, nickname PAK, born in 1985, is a rock singer and musician.

He made his mark when he won the Best Singer award at Sao Mai rendezvous 2006. After that, he was a member of many bands such as 3D, Khoai Lang Tay, Big Belly Band and founded PAK Band.

In 2020, he joined the band Buc Tuong, marking a career revival.
