Styrofoam buoy drifted to Hon Gai beach

Especially in the central area of Ha Long City such as Hon Gai beach, Ha Long flower park area, Bai Chay beach. Here, many tourists have to wade and swim next to stinking foam buoys.

Ms. Tran Lan Anh (a tourist from Hanoi ) shared: "In recent days, Hon Gai beach has seen a lot of foam buoys drifting ashore, especially wooden poles and bamboo panels surrounding the sea surface. The beach management board is urgently cleaning up to ensure safety as well as public beauty."

Besides the Planning Palace, the Quang Ninh provincial fair and exhibition are also full of foam inflatables.

A representative of the Ha Long City People's Committee said that the locality has recently had continuous heavy rains combined with high tides, which have pushed a large amount of foam buoys from surrounding areas to drift ashore in Ha Long Bay. Authorities are working hard to clean up, especially at tourist attractions. On average, hundreds of cubic meters of plastic waste and foam buoys are collected from Ha Long Bay to shore every day.

Regarding the source of foam buoys, the Ha Long Bay Management Board affirmed that there is no aquaculture area using foam buoys on the World Natural Heritage Ha Long Bay. In addition, all public and functional rafts have switched to environmentally friendly materials.

Specifically, from 2022 to now, when localities bordering Ha Long Bay such as Cam Pha City, Van Don District, Quang Yen Town organized to handle the situation of illegal aquaculture, a number of foam buoys, bamboo rafts... were not collected in time and drifted to the rocky islands in Ha Long Bay.

Authorities used boats to go to the rocky islands to collect foam buoys.

In addition, Ha Long Bay borders Cat Hai District (Hai Phong), a dynamic socio-economic area, where waste is often washed over by the tide.

Not only that, Ha Long Bay is connected to the ocean so garbage from the sea is constantly carried in by the current.

Huge amounts of foam buoys have been manually collected in Ha Long Bay in recent days.

Along with that, there are still some fishermen who litter the sea during their daily activities and fishing around Ha Long Bay, which also increases the amount of trash reaching this wonder.

Not only being "surrounded" under the sea, but on shore, many untreated domestic wastewater drains also point at the World Natural Heritage Ha Long Bay, partly causing water pollution.
