Implementing the mandatory energy labeling program since July 1, 2013, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has deployed energy labeling for 19 product categories with over 20,000 energy-labeled products on the market. The program has removed 45 million incandescent light bulbs from the market, increasing energy efficiency for 6 types of products that use a lot of energy (transformers, air conditioners, rice cookers, electric fans, fluorescent tubes, CFLs). In particular, the efficiency of air conditioning increased by 13% annually, saving about 100 million kWh/year.
According to the latest energy statistics report, energy consumption of the industrial sector in Vietnam accounts for more than 50% of the total national energy consumption. Through surveys and practical assessments, the Vietnamese industrial sector can save from 20 to 30% of energy consumption. For construction projects, with the annual increase rate of floor area put into use of over 40%, the potential for energy saving in construction projects in Vietnam is estimated from 30% to 35%. The above figures show that the potential for energy saving in all fields is still very large.
Regarding the awards, Mr. Dang Hai Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that the Energy Efficiency Awards are held annually to recognize and honor businesses operating in the field of industrial production and typical construction works in implementing solutions for energy saving and efficiency.
At the same time, promote and encourage businesses to implement advanced management and technology solutions to bring to market products with outstanding technical features, high energy efficiency, and energy saving. The awards are expected to contribute to the goal of achieving energy savings of 8-10% in the period from 2019 to 2030 of the National Program on economical and efficient use of energy in the period 2019-2030.
The new point of the 2025 award is that the Organizing Committee added the award category of Innovative and Creative Energy Efficiency Technology Solutions to the structure of the 2025 Highest Energy Efficiency Product Award. The addition of the award category of Innovative and Creative Energy Efficiency Technology Solutions in 2025 is an important content to strongly promote science, technology, innovation and digital transformation activities in enterprises, contributing to the successful implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.
The Jury of the awards are experts representing research institutes, universities, and related professional associations with many years of experience in the energy sector. The Council will work with an objective, impartial, and transparent spirit, based on technical parameters to evaluate the solutions, technologies used, equipment, and products registered for the awards.
The time for receiving applications for the award starts from September 25, 2025 to November 15, 2025.
The Industrial Energy Efficiency Award was organized for the first time in 2017 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Vietnam Association for Science and Technology for Energy Conservation and Efficiency. Up to now, the award has attracted the participation of more than 220 enterprises with 1,360 energy-saving solutions. 109 individuals have also been honored by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Association for Science and Technology for Energy Conservation and Efficiency.
After 4 years of implementation, the Energy Efficiency Award in Construction Works has attracted 133 units with nearly 1,000 energy-saving solutions. 73 works in the category of new construction works and renovation works that meet the award criteria have been honored and awarded certificates.
Over the past 5 years of the Highest Energy Efficiency Product Award, nearly 600 products have been recognized and labeled with the highest energy efficiency, and 18 brands have been honored by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Products include: Air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, LED lighting, electric motors, transformers, and electric fans. Products that meet the Highest Energy Efficiency standards will be labeled with the certification of the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a QR code attached when circulating products and goods on the market.
