VnExpressVnExpress05/07/2023

Japanese police are searching for a suspect after a headless male body was found in a love hotel in the capital Sapporo, Hokkaido.

Staff at the Let's Hotel in the Susukino entertainment district in Sapporo called the emergency services after discovering the body in the bathroom of a second-floor room at around 3:15 p.m. on July 2. Staff then went to check on the guest because he had not checked out.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and determined the victim had been decapitated with a knife, with the head missing. Officials found no personal belongings that could help identify the victim.

An autopsy revealed the cause of death was shock due to massive blood loss, along with fatal injuries to the body. Investigators believe the victim may have been killed before being decapitated.

Investigators said the victim was 1.6-1.7 meters tall and over 45 years old, as he had a smallpox vaccination scar on his arm. According to medical journals, smallpox vaccination in Japan was largely discontinued in 1976. He also had an appendectomy scar.

Hotel security cameras captured footage of a person wearing a large hat and dressed as a woman entering the hotel with the victim at around 10:30 p.m. on July 1. Officials did not confirm the person’s gender or identity.

This person left the room more than three hours later, at about 2:00 a.m. on July 2, in different clothes and carrying a large suitcase.

About 240 police officers have been deployed to identify the victim and search for the suspect. Hokkaido police suspect the suspect may have killed the man, left the body in the room and left the hotel with the victim's head.
