Promoting the role of comprehensive care for the elderly in Vietnam in the new era

On September 12, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly held a press conference to inform about the activities of the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam in 2025 and the humanitarian program "Bright eyes for the elderly"; Scientific workshop "Silver economy in Vietnam in the new era".

Permanent Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Truong Xuan Cu said: The Month of Action for the Elderly in Vietnam in 2025 has the theme "Promoting the role of the elderly in the era of growth".

The main purpose of this year's Action Month is to propagate, raise awareness and positive response from the whole society; promote activities to affirm and promote the role of the elderly in the new era of the nation. Action Month is also an opportunity to express gratitude and honor individuals and units that have actively accompanied and contributed to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland...

The main activities include: The launching ceremony of the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam in 2025 and the implementation of the humanitarian program "Bright eyes for the elderly" for the period 2025-2028 taking place on September 27, 2025 in Hanoi . The event is expected to have about 500 delegates attending.

Along with that, the Central Association of the Elderly coordinated with the Department of Physical Education and Sports to organize 4 national sports tournaments: volleyball, chess, swimming and badminton; directed the Associations at all levels to organize many cultural, artistic and sports activities to celebrate the traditional day of the elderly.

In addition, activities of visiting, giving gifts, examining, consulting and taking care of the health of the elderly will be promoted. In particular, there will be activities to promote the role of the elderly in building the grassroots political system, building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, protecting the environment, national security and participating in the digital transformation and start-up process.

One of the important highlights of the 2025 Action Month is the humanitarian program "Bright eyes for the elderly" for the period 2025-2028. The program was signed by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly with the Ministry of Health to raise awareness of eye care, screening, detection and timely treatment of eye diseases.

Notably, in 2025, the program will be implemented in 2 provinces/cities in remote, ethnic minority, mountainous and island areas. From 2026-2028, the program will be expanded nationwide, prioritizing provinces with a high proportion of elderly people.

As planned, the scientific conference “Silver economy in Vietnam in the new era” will take place in November 2025 in Hanoi, expected to gather about 250 delegates including leaders of central departments, ministries and branches; representatives of a number of international organizations; scholars and scientists.
