According to the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development, Vietnam currently has over 25 international border gates, more than 40 main border gates and dozens of secondary border gates/openings. Many key border gates have been invested in and upgraded, applying modern customs clearance technology. A number of logistics centers and cold storages have been established in Lang Son, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, Tay Ninh, An Giang , and Gia Lai. However, the border logistics system is not strong enough, is still scattered and lacks multimodal connections.

Many provinces have established a system of border markets to serve the exchange of goods and the lives of residents. However, the infrastructure is not yet uniform, the scale is still small, and many markets are not yet connected to supporting infrastructure such as warehouses and logistics.

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Chau Thi Le, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Tay Ninh, said that Tay Ninh has many outstanding potentials in border economic development thanks to its strategic location adjacent to the Kingdom of Cambodia. In the first 7 months of 2025, the import-export turnover of goods with Cambodia was over 2 billion USD, accounting for 11% of the total import-export value of the province, up 17% over the same period.

At the conference, experts from central ministries, branches, associations and enterprises shared and discussed in depth, focusing on analyzing key issues in developing Vietnam's border trade. Experts emphasized the importance of perfecting the system of border gates, border markets and logistics infrastructure as a foundation to shorten customs clearance time, reduce costs and increase competitiveness for Vietnamese goods.

Representatives of associations and enterprises also shared experiences in developing distribution systems in border areas and import-export practices. Many opinions said that if Vietnam can exploit the advantages of agricultural product supply, combined with expanding cross-border consumption markets, it will not only solve the output problem for farmers but also create more added value and promote sustainable development.
