Dong Nai - one of the provinces with strong industrialization and urbanization speed in the country is also gradually changing strongly in this direction. This is not only a strategic choice but also an inevitable path for long-term development, ensuring harmony between economic growth and environmental protection.

Green economy is the foundation for development

Green economy is an economic model that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, use resources efficiently and ensure social equity. Dong Nai currently has 83 planned industrial parks (IPs) and tens of thousands of businesses in operation. Therefore, pursuing a green economy is an urgent requirement to reduce environmental pressure, improve people's quality of life, and increase economic competitiveness.

In recent times, the two former provinces of Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai have issued many policies to encourage businesses to invest in clean technology, renewable energy, and the economical and efficient use of resources. New industrial parks are all planned in an ecological direction, integrating wastewater and waste treatment infrastructure, green trees and sustainable transportation. Some typical businesses such as: Changshin Vietnam Co., Ltd.; VRG Dongwha MDF Wood Joint Stock Company; Taekwang Vina Joint Stock Company... have taken the lead in applying cleaner production models, recycling wastewater and utilizing other energy to operate factories.

With high political determination and the cooperation of the whole society, Dong Nai can completely become a model of a province with harmonious development between modern industry, agriculture and a clean living environment.

Head of General Affairs, VRG Dongwha MDF Wood Joint Stock Company, Minh Hung III Industrial Park (Minh Hung Ward) Tran Anh Tuan said: “VRG Dongwha MDF Factory owns the most advanced German technology, the waste treatment will completely eliminate the waste source and regenerate energy for production. The factory uses green, clean materials and produces green, environmentally friendly products. In particular, in the factory premises, the company also arranges a landscape unlike the industrial one to feel the green, clean, and beautiful in the Industrial Park”.

It is noteworthy that many enterprises in industrial parks have begun to convert to the “zero waste” and “green factory” models. Thanks to that, not only do they reduce long-term operating costs but they also meet strict environmental standards from export markets such as Europe, the United States, and Japan. Therefore, in the process of investing in industrial park development, infrastructure investment companies have also determined the “living” motto of synchronous development between the economy and the environment in the green industrial map. Mr. Pham Phi Dieu, General Director of Bac Dong Phu Industrial Park Joint Stock Company (Dong Phu commune) said: “The Bac and Nam Dong Phu Industrial Park has attracted 112 enterprises to invest in construction and operation with 100% of the industrial land area for lease. Currently, the company is completing legal procedures to expand the Industrial Park phase 2 by more than 600 hectares and right from the project planning stage, we are aiming for a green industrial park model. In particular, we reserve land to develop green areas and encourage enterprises to invest in production activities in industries that are less polluting, reduce carbon emissions and use renewable energy…”.

Green agriculture needs consensus

Dong Nai is facing a great opportunity to transform itself in the agricultural sector. Over the past years, Dong Nai has made strong changes in applying high technology, using organic fertilizers, reusing livestock waste, and developing circular agricultural models. Models such as organic vegetable growing, biosafety livestock farming or applying water-saving irrigation systems have been deployed in many localities in the province and initially brought positive results.

With the circular economic model from goat farming to planting and caring for key crops in the locality, Can Le Agricultural and Service Cooperative (Loc Thanh commune) has attracted many farmers to participate and promoted high economic efficiency. Mr. Dao Xuan Phong, Deputy Director of Can Le Agricultural and Service Cooperative said: "The model has been replicated in residential areas, thereby contributing to reducing environmental pollution, reducing the amount of fertilizers, pesticides, etc. At the same time, the agricultural products of the model are trusted and welcomed by consumers, bringing very high economic value. From there, it is affirmed that the Circular Economic model has gradually gained the position and expectations of farmers".

Green agriculture is not simply about using less chemicals, but also a sustainable production system, friendly to the environment, ensuring food safety and contributing to the protection of natural resources. This not only increases the value of the product but also motivates farmers to persistently pursue the path of clean agriculture.

Having just put into operation the Agricultural and Food Processing Factory with an investment of 6.5 million USD, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gia Bao Group Joint Stock Company (Binh Phuoc Ward) Tran Van Son shared: "The factory is invested with Japanese and German technology to produce the best products, meeting the most demanding needs of consumers around the world. This is also a premise for businesses to accompany farmers in pursuing the path of clean agricultural production, enhancing the value chain of Vietnamese agricultural products".

Towards a sustainable future

Despite many positive changes, the path to green agriculture development in Dong Nai still faces many challenges. Access to new technology, quality plant and animal varieties and stable output markets are also barriers that make many farmers hesitate. In order for green agriculture to not only be a slogan but actually enter into production life, Dong Nai has a synchronous strategy with the participation of the entire political system and the people.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai province Le Thi Anh Tuyet said: “In the coming time, the agricultural sector of the province will focus on innovative transformation and application of digital technology to ensure transparency in all stages of the process from input of seeds, agricultural materials, application of science and technology to production, consumption and export. At the same time, we will continue to establish cooperatives and enterprises operating in the agricultural sector to build product chains with high economic value. In particular, Dong Nai has issued Resolution No. 143/2018/NQ-HDND dated December 7, 2018, stipulating policies to support linkages in production and consumption of agricultural products in Dong Nai province. Accordingly, the sector will focus on building chains on key local crops and animals to develop the province's agriculture in a sustainable direction...”.

Developing a green, circular and sustainable economy is not only a smart choice but also an inevitable path for Dong Nai to improve the quality of life for its people, protect natural resources for future generations and enhance its position in the global economy that is strongly transforming towards "greening".
