Approval of Phu Quoc International Airport planning

The Minister of Construction has just approved the Planning of Phu Quoc International Airport (Kien Giang) for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, with a scale of more than 1,050 hectares (of which the proposed land area for the locality to add an additional 198.4 hectares).

According to the plan, this airport will be used for both civil and military purposes, a level 4E airport (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO); the type of aircraft used will be Boeing 747, Boeing 787, Airbus 350 and equivalent.

Specifically, the planning for the 2021-2030 period will have a capacity to serve about 10 million passengers/year and 25,000 tons of cargo/year; by 2050, the capacity will increase to about 18 million passengers/year and 50,000 tons of cargo/year; planning the parking lot in front of the T2 passenger terminal and expanding the existing parking lot to accommodate about 30 aircraft parking positions, with the possibility of expansion in the reserved land for parking lot development; planning the parking lot for aircraft in the VIP guest house/general aviation area to ensure synchronous operation.

By 2050, the parking lot will be expanded to accommodate about 45 aircraft parking positions; reserve for expansion when needed.

Runway system in the 2021-2030 period, extending the existing runway to both sides to a size of 3,500 meters x 45 meters; planning runway No. 2 to have a size of 3,300 meters x 45 meters, about 360 meters north of the existing runway centerline, with material curb size according to regulations. And maintaining the planned runway configuration until 2050.

The Minister of Construction assigned the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committee of Kien Giang province and relevant agencies to organize the announcement, management and implementation of the planning according to regulations. Assign the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to review and update the above planning contents into the local planning and related planning; organize the management of airspace and construction height according to regulations; arrange and protect land funds in accordance with the approved planning, have plans on planning and land use plans to ensure that land funds are ready to meet the needs of expansion development according to the planning.
