Despite receiving attention and positive reviews after its release in late September, "The Old Lady" has not yet had the opportunity to be released to commercial theaters. According to Mr. Vi Kien Thanh, this has sparked debate about the fact that state-funded films do not generate revenue, but are only shown for free at film weeks or film festivals.

He also cited the case of the film "Peach, Pho and Piano" - a rare State-sponsored film that was released on a pilot basis and achieved an impressive revenue of 23 billion VND, proving that State films still have appeal if invested in and released.

However, Mr. Thanh also acknowledged the loopholes in the current regulations on film distribution and distribution from the State budget. There is still a lack of specific regulations for these films to access commercial theaters, leading to many works only stopping at limited screenings.

Faced with this situation, the Cinema Department has proposed to build a new regulatory framework, opening up opportunities for wide distribution for cinematographic works using the State budget.

"The Old Woman Who Travels" was adapted from the short story of the same name by writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu, directed by Tran Chi Thanh and written by Phi Tien Son. The film had its first screening on September 27 at the National Cinema Center with a cast including Meritorious Artist Minh Trang, Tiet Cuong, Thuy Diem and Pham Hy.

The work revolves around the character of Mrs. Nam, a mother in the West with four grown children. Although she has sacrificed her whole life for her children, she faces loneliness when she gets old. Her desire to live for herself is hindered by her children, and when they realize the true meaning of the freedom their mother sought, Mrs. Nam breathes her last.

The film touches the hearts of Vietnamese mothers, as they always stand behind their families, sometimes losing themselves.

The emotional success but regret about the opportunity to reach a wide audience is one of the points that made "The Old Lady Going Out" become the center of discussion in the film industry recently.

Will this be the bell that calls for changes in State film distribution policy in the future?
