On September 30, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 3479/QD-BVHTTDL on sending the feature film “Red Rain” by director Dang Thai Huyen, produced by the People’s Army Cinema, to participate in the 98th International Feature Film Awards – Oscars Preliminary Round organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States. This is a special event, affirming the integration efforts of Vietnamese cinema on the world’s largest film playing field.

Previously, on June 13, 2025, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 1830/QD-BVHTTDL on the establishment of the National Council for Film Selection to participate in the Oscars preliminary round for the 2025-2026 term. Through review and voting, the film "Red Rain" was highly trusted, becoming the representative of Vietnam to compete at this prestigious award.
Set in the revolutionary war, “Red Rain” realistically and movingly recreates the tragic history of the nation, especially the 81-day and night war to protect Quang Tri Citadel in 1972, honoring the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers. The film impresses with its humanistic storytelling, elaborately invested images, emotional music , and convincing acting by the cast.
The director and crew have harmonized the epic spirit with a close, modern perspective, making the work not only touch the hearts of domestic audiences but also connect with international audiences.
The fact that a Vietnamese film was submitted to the 98th Oscars is an important opportunity for the country's cinema to be introduced and widely promoted to international friends. This is also a step to affirm the increasingly strong position of Vietnamese cinema in the integration process, while opening up opportunities to learn and exchange with world cinema.
The film “Red Rain” coming to the 98th Oscars is also an opportunity for the world to once again listen to Vietnam's story through the language of cinema.
