Russian troops create a siege of Lyman and Siversk in northern Donetsk

The Russian army completed control of Derilovo, advanced to Drobyshevo north of Lyman, and encircled Lyman and Siversk north of Donetsk.

On September 27, the Russian Military Review website, citing DIVGEN TV Channel, reported that the Russian army (RFAF) had completed control of the village of Derilove on the Lyman front (Russia calls it Krasno-Liman) north of Donetsk, and the village was completely under the control of the RFAF.

The attack on Derilove began on September 23, shortly after Shandrigolovo fell under Russian control. RFAF units built on their success, accelerating their advance, and the next day, September 24, some Russian media outlets reported that the village was almost completely under RFAF control. And now, information has arrived that Ukrainian troops have completely withdrawn from Derilove.

The control of Derilovo gives the RFAF the opportunity to attack Drobyshevo, establishing a bridgehead there to attack Lyman from the northwest. And judging by the situation there, Drobyshevo will be used by the RFAF to launch the attack. According to the latest information, two days ago, Russian attack groups were spotted north of the village of Drobyshevo.

At the same time, the village of Novoselivka, where Russian troops had penetrated the eastern outskirts of the village a few days ago, is now seeing fighting right in the center of the village; and the Ukrainian army (AFU) has also openly spoken about the imminent loss of this village.

The military analysis site ANNA News said that the RFAF is completing control of the strategically important settlement of Zarichne, east of Lyman. This village has been the scene of months of fighting, leaving the area in ruins. The AFU deployed 19 battalions to defend this direction but suffered very heavy losses.

Why did the AFU in Zarichne put up such a strong fight? Because this village was the last major obstacle standing before Lyman, a strategically important city in the far north of Donetsk, on the way to stop the RFAF from reaching the “twin cities” of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

At present, Russia is advancing towards Lyman from three directions: from Kolodyazi, Torske and Derilove. And the capture of most of Zarichne is not the only Russian success, as the Russians took control of Shandrigolovo and took Derilove as described above.

The RFAF's successive victories north of Lyman marked the collapse of Lyman's defenses in a domino effect; turning this place into a bridgehead, allowing the RFAF to penetrate deep into Lyman; then helping the Russian army advance straight to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

To the southeast of Lyman, along the Readovka channel, the RFAF launched an operation to isolate the logistical lifeline of the AFU garrison at Seversk. This was undoubtedly a heavy blow to the AFU's main artery.

Units of the RFAF 3rd Guards Army have begun an operation to "cut off the oxygen supply" to the AFU's Siversk defense cluster. Meanwhile, the RFAF 25th Army is breaking through the enemy defenses in Yampol with the goal of reaching the front line between Siversk and Lyman on the northern bank of the Seversky Donets River, a logistical attack is also underway on the southern bank.

Specifically, from the village of Serebryanka, the forces of the 3rd Army began moving westward, bypassing Siversk. This operation was facilitated by the 25th Army's complete control of the northern bank of the river in the Serebryanka forest area, forcing the AFU to abandon the area near Seversk.

This favorable factor opened the way for the RFAF to organize a breakthrough westward from the village of Serebryanka to the villages of Dronivka and Platonivka, located on the right bank of the Siverskyi Donetsk River. Once the RFAF captured these villages, the logistical route supplying the Ukrainian group at Siversk from Lyman would be neutralized.

This means that the pressure on this vital artery of the AFU, which is being created by the RFAF simultaneously in two areas, significantly accelerates the task. At the same time, the shock units of the 3rd Army have already driven the Ukrainian troops out of the village of Pereizne, south of Seversk, and are preparing to attack the village of Zvanivka.

It is possible that the RFAF's objective here, after capturing Pereizne, was to attack the village of Sviato-Pokrovske; this was a key road junction to Siversk. Its control would deny the possibility of supplying Slavyansk to Siversk via the rural route Mykolaivka - Rai-Oleksandrivka - Riznykivka.

These actions signal the beginning of an RFAF offensive on the second logistics line that is ensuring the combat readiness of the AFU in the Siversk area. As a result, Russian forces north and south of the Siversk area will tighten the encirclement of the AFU.

Of course, after losing these routes, the AFU at Siversk would not be completely out of supplies, as they still had a corridor of dirt roads and fields leading to Siversk, west of the village of Kryva Luka.

But it is clear that the operational capabilities of such a route, even in dry weather, are relatively limited. With the onset of the muddy autumn and the increased activity of Russian UAV units, the supply situation for the Ukrainian troops defending the Siversk area in the coming period will become very urgent.
