Quang Ngai urgently reviews land funds to arrange resettlement for people.
The North-South high-speed railway project is a national transport mega-project of unprecedented scale, with a total length of about 1,545 km, a design speed of up to 350 km/h, connecting key economic regions along the North-South axis.
The section passing through Quang Ngai alone is more than 86 km long, from Km 800+100 (Binh Minh commune) to Km 886+400 (Khanh Cuong commune), using more than 561 hectares of land, mainly agricultural land, passing through 17 communes in the province. A station will be located in the west of Quang Ngai urban area.
According to statistics, the locality currently has 23 resettlement areas and 17 burial areas that were used in large infrastructure projects, such as the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon Expressway and the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway. Of these, there are about 1,505 plots of land and 2,759 empty graves that can be exploited immediately.
However, according to the assessment of the functional sector, the existing land fund is not enough to meet the needs of relocating residents and reburying graves along the entire railway line. Therefore, the province is developing a plan to add dozens of new resettlement areas and concentrated grave areas, especially in localities that have never implemented large projects.
Expected location to start construction of resettlement area serving high-speed railway project
According to the plan, along with many other localities in the country, on August 19, Quang Ngai will organize the groundbreaking ceremony for the resettlement area serving the high-speed railway. It is expected that the selected location will be the OM6 land fund development project, with a scale of nearly 6 hectares, in Son Tinh commune. This will be a model for the next resettlement areas.
Mr. Dang Xuan Trung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Tinh Commune, said that the local government has proactively coordinated with relevant departments and branches to review the list of affected households and arrange suitable land. At the same time, it has stepped up propaganda work to get people to agree with the government's major policies.
"We regularly hold meetings with residents, publicize planning information and encourage people to hand over their land. Up to now, most people have supported and are ready to relocate when a decision is made," said Mr. Dang Xuan Trung.
Deputy Director of the Department of Construction of Quang Ngai province Pham Viet Ha informed that the localities where the project route passes through have proactively and urgently reviewed the total number of affected households, those subject to relocation and resettlement. At the same time, they coordinated to survey the construction sites of resettlement areas, in which priority was given to selecting locations that were suitable with related planning.
To implement the project in a synchronous manner, the Department of Construction held a meeting with the leaders of 17 communes and wards where the railway passes through, requesting them to review the current population status, assess the land fund capacity and propose suitable areas. Localities were also assigned to strengthen propaganda work and collect public opinions to limit the occurrence of complaints during the implementation process.
"Consulting with residents and close coordination between all levels and sectors are decisive factors to ensure the site clearance process takes place smoothly, openly and transparently," said the leader of the Department of Construction.
According to the plan, all site clearance work for the high-speed railway in Quang Ngai province must be completed and handed over before the end of 2026.
