Quang Ninh leads in awards for excellent students, 700 million VND/prize

Hanoi has just joined the list of localities that pay out hundreds of millions of dong in rewards to excellent international students. So which provinces and cities are the most generous in this reward?

The Hanoi People's Council has just passed a Resolution regulating the bonus level for students with high achievements in domestic and international competitions and exams, and teachers with achievements in training and nurturing students who won national, regional, international prizes and first prizes at the city level.

Many localities reward hundreds of millions of dong to excellent international students.

The rewards for students increased by 2-15 times, divided by field (cultural and technical subjects), exam level and award type. Specifically, students who won first prize in international cultural olympiads were awarded 300 million VND. Silver, bronze and consolation prizes received 200, 150 and 100 million VND respectively.

The rewards for students who win regional and international science and technology prizes are the same, from 50 to 200 million VND. At the national and city levels, the rewards range from 10 to 50 million VND, with the city level only awarding first prize.

If the winning student is disabled or an ethnic minority, the reward will increase by 1.5 - 2 times. Teachers who directly train and develop the student will be rewarded 70% of the student's reward. The resolution takes effect immediately after being passed, with funding from the city budget.

Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, affirmed that the newly approved reward policy demonstrates the city's deep concern for the education and training sector, with the view of prioritizing training of high-quality human resources and nurturing talents, while also creating a strong push for schools in teaching and learning.

The highest level is 700 million VND

Previously, many localities have generously rewarded students who won international and regional prizes. Quang Ninh province has the highest reward, with 700 million VND for students who won first prize in international Olympic competitions; 500 million for second prize; 400 million for third prize and 200 million for consolation prize. For regional competitions, this province rewards from 100 to 500 million VND.

Two provinces and cities with a reward of 500 million VND for students who won first prizes at international competitions are Hai Phong and Bac Ninh. Vinh Phuc ranked third with 400 million VND. With the newly issued resolution, Hanoi ranked fourth with a reward of 300 million VND.

In the past 3-5 years, these localities have had many students winning prizes in international olympics. Especially in Bac Ninh province, thanks to this policy, in the 2023-2024 school year, 79/86 students won prizes in the national excellent student selection exam, rising to second place nationwide in the rate of students winning prizes; 3 candidates selected to compete in regional and international olympics won 3 medals, including gold medals. The People's Committee of this province has spent nearly 5.2 billion VND in rewards for students and teachers.

Some other provinces and cities also have bonuses of up to hundreds of millions of dong, including Thua Thien - Hue, Tuyen Quang, Thai Binh... The remaining localities commonly have bonuses of 50 million dong or more.

In national competitions for excellent students, the common rewards for first and second prizes are from 10-20 million VND, third and consolation prizes are under 10 million.

Kien Giang awarded the first prize at the national level up to 100 million VND, followed by Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh and Ho Chi Minh City with prizes of 50 million VND; Vinh Phuc, Thua Thien Hue, Ninh Binh, Da Nang awarded 40 million VND.

According to government regulations, students who win international Olympic gold medals are awarded 55 million VND, silver and bronze medals are 35 and 25 million VND respectively. The highest national prize is 4 million VND.
