On October 25, Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital said that recently the hospital has received many cases of psoriasis caused by using topical and oral medications purchased on social networks, resulting in psoriasis flare-ups causing dangerous redness of the skin all over the body.
The first case is an 18-year-old male patient who came to the clinic with red, scaly skin all over his body. The patient said he had psoriasis for about a year. The patient went online and saw an advertisement for a type of pill and cream that completely cured psoriasis. The patient ordered a 3-box course for 600,000 VND. After finishing the first course, the psoriasis improved significantly, but when he stopped taking the medicine for 5 days, the red, scaly skin gradually increased and spread all over his body, accompanied by itching, tight skin, pain, fatigue, fever and chills... so the patient was hospitalized at the Dermatology Hospital.
Many people with psoriasis also buy biological drugs of unknown origin but very expensive for treatment.
Another case, a 49-year-old male patient has had psoriasis for the past 18 years but has not been examined and treated continuously.
Recently, the patient went online and learned that Dr. H. specializes in treating psoriasis, so he called to make an appointment for examination and treatment . For 2 years, the patient was continuously prescribed and taken an unknown medicine by the doctor. At first, the skin lesions were less red and the scales were much less, but the patient felt that his skin was thinner, and his face and abdomen were also more swollen. When he stopped taking and applying the medicine, the redness and flaking gradually worsened and spread all over his body, so the patient went to the Dermatology Hospital for examination.
Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang, Head of Clinical Department 2, Dermatology Hospital, said that the two patients had psoriasis all over their bodies. The patients were treated with acitretin, cyclosporin, antibiotics, antihistamines and local care. After 4 days of treatment, their condition has stabilized, their swelling has reduced, and their psoriasis lesions have reduced redness and scaling.
According to Dr. Hoang, psoriasis is the most severe form of psoriasis, often caused by patients not receiving any treatment or not receiving proper treatment, causing the psoriasis lesions to gradually spread and become erythema. If this condition persists, it will lead to dangerous complications such as sepsis, pneumonia or heart failure, which can lead to death.
Doctor Hoang added that currently, medicine has many methods to treat psoriasis, but there is still no way to completely cure the disease. To treat psoriasis, patients need to go to medical facilities with dermatology specialists and use medication as prescribed by a doctor. Do not buy medicine on your own, especially drugs of unknown origin, because it will make psoriasis worse and can progress to psoriasis.
On the occasion of World Psoriasis Day, October 29, Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital organized a psoriasis patient club program. The program was held from 7:30 am to 11:00 am on October 29 at the Dermatology Hospital.
Attending the program, psoriasis patients will receive free medical examinations, hear leading experts provide information on skin care, early detection and prevention of psoriatic arthritis, and receive advice from psychologists on how to control stress to avoid psoriasis flare-ups.
